unable to playback 4k mp4 files taken from windows phone

unable to playback 4k mp4 files h.264 stereo,, just says this format is not supported on the xbox one x. I was hoping once I got the X I could play back my home video collection, 1080p h.264 in the same format works just fine, but 4k doesn't

(tried via the movies & tv app under personal collection.)

(I don't use media player anymore due to the giant bright grey bars that it puts above and below videos)

4k Mp4 Files Playback Fail

I can't get any of my 4k mp4 videos whether downloaded or that I've recorded myself in h.264 to play on the xbox one x. I figured it would be able to playback 4k video files.

Anyone have any luck? I've tried the media player app and using the movies & tv app using shared network using DLNA shares.

Do your files play on a pc? In that case it probably has to do with the encoding of your file. You can re-encode rhem, but that will always lead to some quality loss. Take a look at this article:

support.xbox.com/.../watch-dvds-movies

It lists the supported formats (with bit rates etc) that the xbox supports. If you search online, I'm sure you can find some free alternatives to re-encode them if you want to. Good luck

It may be that some of your files are unsupported, this page lists the specs of supported files:

support.xbox.com/.../audio-video-playback You will note that it plays MP4s just fine, it just depends on the MP4.

Though MP4 is claimed to be supported by Xbox 360, sometimes we still run in to difficulties to play MP4 on Xbox 360.

You may try to change the extension name from .mp4 to .wmv but I cannot ensure this action can solve the MP4 playback problem.

If you are still in trouble, you can convert your MP4 files to WMV or MP4.

I've never heard of MKV files. I know if I transfer AVCHD files or from my Sony CX190 camcorder, or MPEG-2 TS files from my Hauppauge Capture software, that those files won't play if I transfer to USB to my Xbox 360 slim console. MP4 is like a widely accepted
format. My Samsung S5 when connected to my PC allows me to convert non-MP4 files into wvs (or what ever it's called) from my PC to my phone will only play MP4 and WVS files.
