Unable to mute and unmute other users

So this problem arose today (4/7/18) when my friend invited me to a party. I joined and it said he was muted so, naturally, I went to unmute him but to no avail. It just wouldn't work. Then I remembered I muted him the day before on accident and nothing
happened when I did. Im thinking that he is muted because of that and for some reason won't unmute. I've tried restarting the console several times and even going as far as trying and alt account but I couldn't even mute anyone with that. I aslo checked if
he was blocked and he wasnt; checked if he had me muted/blocked and I wasnt so im utterly confused. Because similar problems where buttons on the xbox dashboard would not work, I'm going to assume by tomorrow that xbox is just going to unmute my friend while
its off because that's how it is. This type of thing has happened to me several times before. Once I unfriended someone and every time I went to add them, it would either have an error or just nothing would happen. Anyway, I just want a fix or a way to know
whether this is a console problem or an xbox live problem. I have a feeling its just the xbox being trash from time to time and simply not working because why not.

Muting Glitched?

It started when I tried to mute someone that was in m party, but when I clicked mute nothing happened. I continued to press mute and it still wouldn't do anything. Next, I went directly to their account and clicked mute. Now it said that I could unmute
them, but I could still hear them. I unmute them while I was still on their account. I tried to mute some other people who were also in my party, but I couldn't mute them either. I could mute the entire party, but I couldn't mute one individual person.
Later that day anyone who I tried to mute were now muted, I tried to unmute them, and I had the same problem, but now I couldn't unmute them. After some time I finally got them unmuted. I got on the next day and when I joined the party I didn't immediately
notice anything. Later, another one of my friends joined, so I said hi. I never got a response and that confused. After he left the party, I thought that maybe he was muted, but it turned out that whenever anyone joined my party everyone would be muted.
I had to unmute three people multiple times to get that selection of three people unmuted. There was one other person in my party that was also muted, but whenever I tried to unmute him it would instantly mute the other three that I just unmuted. When I would
finally get them unmuted it would only take a few second to about a minute before they would be muted once again.

I Think i got a Problem..with my xbox one..

"Xbox Mute" mutes the TV not Xbox. Done.

"Xbox Unmute" to reverse.

If you are still unable to unmute your friend then you will want to try a cold boot of the console by unplugging it for a full 5 minutes. If that step does not help then the next step will be to try a

quick factory reset of the console. Please be sure to keep your games and apps installed when asked to do so during this process. If you still are unable to mute them after these steps please let us know. This was a service related issue but should be cleared
up now.

I also have this issue and so does my son. He has a friend and his friend is unable to unmute him. He didn't place him on mute in the first place. He tries to unmute on his friends list but it just reverts back. I have his friend on my list and he is muted
under my account....through choice

. But I too can't unmute him now. Tried on my friends list, reverts back to muted. Tried by going under my profile, going to following, selecting muted, unmuting him there.....still the same.

Anybody got any ideas? Could Fortnite have anything to do with it? Tried going in to party, then going to in game chat, leaving it for 10 secs, going back to party and unmuting. Has worked for some....not for me. Please, help me. my son won't stop moaning
about it. Is it something that just resolves itself or is that it?

Thank you so much for the information you have all provided. We have collected all of the information we need, and the proper teams are still hard at work to get this issue resolved.

Unfortunately we do not have an ETA on a fix, but as soon as we get an update, we'll post it up in here.

We completely understand how frustrating this issue is, and we appreciate the continued feedback provided in this thread.

This still isn't fixed. Just joined a party with one of my friends and he was muted, and I am unable to unmute him. Unmute in party does nothing. View profile and unmute will switch to mute, but backing out and viewing profile shows unmute again. We switched
to game chat and I can hear him fine.

I think last time we played I muted him because his mic was buzzing, and he left party before I ever unmuted him. This seems to be an xbox live issue, and in 3 years it still hasn't been fixed.

i'm currently having the same issue and worst is when there are 8 people in the party like 4 of them are muted automatically, and if i try to un-mute one it un-mutes some of them and then mutes others... it's so stupid but i don't know how to fix it

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that you are interested in learning how to unmute all the players in your party. Is the party still muted when you restart the application? You mentioned that you are using the Xbox (beta) App.
There is a mute button on the top right portion of the voice chat windows that should allow you to turn it off. If you are unable to access the mute button through the Xbox (beta) App, we recommend trying to

unmute your party through the Xbox Console Companion App. Be sure to let us know the results aleksihuhtala!
