Unable to install games in XBox App due to issue in "Choose a drive" dialog

Please on file explorer, activate the option to see hidden files, it would be under the View option menu at the top of any explorer window

Once you do that corroborate that you have a ".GamingRoot" file on any of your drives, if you don't have one that's the reason for this, you will be able to install games that don't support changing the file path but not the ones that do

If you deleted the file, you need to restore that file It should be on your recycle bin, or you can create a new file text on the same location it was previously, only works in the same location that was previously, then you need to remove the extension of the file so it must be just ".GamingRoot", once you do that you try to install the game on that drive, once it starts you can cancel and copy that file to any other drive where you wanna set a path for installations.

Another reason could be that you try to change the drive to a different one but that drive isn't the one you set for installations outside the Windowsapp folder, you need to change or copy the same file to that drive for it to work

try this it worked for me and someone else

search for "Regedit" or "registry editor" in the windows search and once you have found the “registry editor” app, open the registry editor app, once you’ve opened, the registry editor app, navigate to this path



Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\xinputhid



and delete, the folder called xinputhid



once you delete that folder go to, the settings app, and look for apps, installed apps, and search for Xbox, once you have found, the Xbox App, click on, the three dots, and click on advanced, when the advanced options page opens, go down and follow these steps: click on - terminate, repair, reset, and then uninstall, and then go to the Microsoft store a redownload the Xbox app and see if the normal dialog comes up where it should be back to normal, i did this and i got the app reset with the normal install dialog. You have posted the same info multiple times now, but it simply doesn't work.

After a reinstall of Windows due to a hardware failure, I can't get the Xbox app to install to the configured folder.

Whatever folder I choose, it is properly shown in the installation dialog, but games get still installed into C:\Program Files\WindowsApps.

Before the fresh installation of Windows this worked without any issues.

Yes, everything is updated, and I even tried the Insider version without success.

This seems to be genuinely bugged, at least for new installations.

Seems like the latest update of the XBOX App has deleted the files from the failed installation.

Try to install it via the Xbox app Glabdoul, there you can choose the drive you want to install the game on.
