Unable to get audio through various headsets

I recently obtained a second-hand original Xbox One (not S or X) and I've reset it to factory defaults. I have it connected to a computer monitor rather than a standard TV.

I purchased a new controller with the 3.5mm jack. I am able to hear game audio when I plug in my regular Apple earbuds. However, since it's my understanding that Apple earbuds can't be used for chat, I've been trying various headsets and I can't get any
system audio to come through the headset.

I've tried System > Settings > General > Volume & audio output and have tried various settings in the Chat Mixer, but nothing seems to work.

I looked through the troubleshooting article below but still can't get it working.

Any suggestions on what I can try to get this working?

Update cotroller when u have connected ur headset

Thanks for the quick reply.

I forgot to mention that I've performed updates on all of the controllers. I just tried doing updates again while the headset is plugged in and I get the same result.

I've used the kinect audio and headset audio equally and I have to say that the kinect audio from other players is quite annoying. It's very broken and sounds very distant. Also, i'm unable to be understood on the kinect as opposed to the headset. I only
have the standard headset at the moment but am going to get the Turtle Beach one soon.

Oh, also, I'm assuming chat audio does not get piped in through the headset and comes in through the main audio instead?

The Xbox One headset is used for voice audio only. You shouldn't be getting any game audio through it. If you are referring to a third party headset please contact the manufacturers customer support.
