Unable to figure out who is in the family group.

First I'll suggest she tries to recover the account that is the family organiser. The only way to recover an Xbox account is via the account recovery form here https://account.live.com/password/reset

You can try all the emails you remember or if you had a phone number attached to the account, you can use that too.

Once it has been recovered, then she can use that to remove the child. Unfortunately the child cannot remove himself from the family group due to Microsoft's policy.

I figured it out ... Logging into the Microsoft website using my "gmail" credentials, I navigated to the Family Group.

I had to "remove consent" for my son FIRST, and then I was allowed to remove my son from the "gmail" family group. Logging back into my "hotmail" Family Group, I was able to add him back easy peasy.

The organizer has found my profile in the group listed- however, he is unable to remove me. The error message reads exactly: "You can't remove this person from the family group. Only the adult that granted consent for this person can remove this family member. Ask the family organizer who granted this person consent to remove him from the family."
However, he says that his account says that he has been the organizer since 2016, and he was indeed the one who added me to the group.
Is this an error, or bug? Or is something being done improperly on our end?
Again, sorry for asking so constantly. This just seems to be a very complex issue.

No, it is not. I thought I mentioned in the post that I even tried adding it to a family group, tested the settings, and then switched it so that it was the manager of the family group. Neither of those things worked. It is now not part of a family group. In addition, each of the times I attempted to access the settings from the account that was only listed as a member, not as the owner of the family group, I was unable to even get to the page that displays the settings. This leads me to believe that being part of a family group has no bearing on the issue at hand.
