Unable to adjust chat mixer to hear audio/game sound on mic

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with being able to adjust the balance between game audio and voice chat.

In regards to this, please, be advised that the Audio option under
System on the Xbox guide has three different options:

1. Headset volume: This controls the level at which the audio is projected into your headset, earphones, headphones etc.
2. Headset chat mixer: This option allows you to adjust the balance of hearing more of the game audio [this includes in-game chat and you would have to adjust this separately in-game if you wish to not hear voice chat from others] or party chat audio.
3. Mic Monitoring: This will allow you to adjust how sensitive your mic is towards sound so at to project your voice across either in-game or party chat.

Additionally, please, keep in mind that only certain headset, earphones, headphones etc. will provide this option for you to configure this via your console.

If this option is not selectable for you, then you would have to have alternative means to adjust this, say via an adapter that is connected to your headset device.

Because you are having problems with both the headset and earbuds, it could be your controller. However, check the audio mixer settings on the Xbox. With the headset plugged into your controller, from the home menu go to the system tab. You should see
a selection for audio. Open the audio controls and check to make sure the mixer is not set for chat only, eliminating game sounds. Adjust the settings and see if you start hearing sounds.

Thanks for coming to the forums. We understand you are wanting to know what the three bars are for under audio.

1. Headset volume- is the volume as to which you hear the game or chat.
2. Headset chat mixer- This bar lets you hear more of the game (which move to the controller). Or to the right to hear more of chat either in game chat or party chat.
3. Mic monitoring- This is mic sensitivity. The farther you set it to the right, the more the mic will pick up. This is usually adjusted lower if there is a lot of background noise.

There is a fader in the audio settings, you can choose if you want all sound to the main app or the snapped app

Configure sound and chat mixer settings

Sound mixer allows you to adjust the blend of sound between visible apps. Chat mixer lets you adjust the blend of sound between your game and your chat communications.

Alternatively if you are playing a game as the main app, just go to the game's audio settings and turn it down to 0.

This is what I do if I'm watching TV snapped.

Go to the Home screen.

Press the Menu button on the controller.

Select Settings.

Note You can say “Xbox, go to settings” from any screen, but you’ll need a controller to navigate once you’re on the Settings screen.

Select Display & sound.

Select the type of audio mix that you’d like to adjust.

Press xbox home button on your controller and go to the system tab on the far right and click on audio. if your headset supports in game audio you should see an option called "Headset chat mixer". you can scroll the bar to the left to adjust how much of
a game sound you want to hear.
