Unable to add xbox friend as EA friend in FC24

I’ve got 2 XBOX series X for my 2 sons both with Xbox Series X/S version of FC24 installed. They are in same room and both connected online. Both are using family accounts on Xbox and both have online multiplayer enabled in privacy settings on Xbox.

in FC24 they can see each other as online friends but whenever they try to add as an EA friend to play coop it errors stating ‘could not send friend request. Try again’

they have no problems playing each other with other games Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, even battlefield which is also EA.

anyone got any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong?

From what I experienced when I had this issue, my friend and I had to add each other to the EA Origin launcher. (Image).

That fixed the issue, in this case, your child needs to have an EA account.

This happens with a certain frequency, it's an EA "issue".

Thanks but that’s no help. When you sign into a child account in EA app there are no settings to adjust for that child. In my own EA account I can link my Xbox account as you suggest but that doesn’t help my children.

As a test I changed their Xbox account birthdays to 18 but they still get the same error.
