Unable to activate xbox gift card

I am unable to redeem the gift card because I keep being prompt to
"This code is not yet active. Contact the merchant to activate this code" What does this mean?????

Thanks for keeping us updated. If the Xbox Gift Card is not activated, you will need to take it back to the retailer in order to get it activated. An Xbox Gift Card is activated when it is scanned out of the retailer's system. Some retailers require

Hello Nick,

Thanks for coming to the forums. If you are wanting to get a gift card refunded you will have to go back to the point of purchase. These are hard to get refunded as they are unable to de-activate them. Once they scan it its activated for use. If they are
unable to refund you will most likely have to use it for yourself.
