Xbox One multiplayer lag. How to increase internet speeds for gaming.

A "wireless extender" is normally referred to a wireless backhaul, or a wireless distribution system (WDS), operating on the same frequency. This is not to be confused with the majority of 802.11 deployments, that use multiple APs as a portal into an 802.3
    Ethernet backbone.

Now, if cable drops, in your househould, is not feasible, then a viable solution to consider would be setting up a mesh network, wich utilizes different frequencies and radios for client access and distribution (wireless backhaul). The disadvantage is foremost
the half duplex medium, but also the fact that each frame transmission needs to be sent twice. This decreases througput and increases latency.

An additional option, if cable drop is possible, is to buy a set of APs (e.g. Ubiquiti), along with a fairly cheap unmanaged switch with PoE/PoE+. With the Ubiquiti you have the option to extend each BSS with the help of an ESSID, having wireless devices
the ability to, seamlessly, roam between the APs.

A last resort, to consider, is a Wi-Fi Homeplug/Powerline adapter.

    Hard to explain issue.

Check for obstructions that is close and could interfere with your router's signal strenght aswell as the external wireless network adapter. Try changing your router's wireless channel manually to a different channel (e.g. 11). Try changing/lowering the
wireless mode (802.11 mode:). If your router's wireless security protocol is set to WEP try changing it to WPA or WPA2. Make sure UPnP is enabled.
