Two Microsoft accounts linked to 1 email?

You can have multiple aliases, but only one primary alias. Your primary alias is the one that appears on your devices, such as your Xbox console, and the one that is used for billing and account management.

When you use an alias to sign in to your Xbox account, you are still using the same Microsoft account, but with a different sign-in credential. For example, if your primary alias is bob@example.com and you have an alias alice@example.com, you can sign in to your Xbox account with either email address, but you are still using the same account with the same data and settings.

Now, let me address your specific issue. It sounds like you have used your girlfriend's email as a backup for your main Xbox account, and now you want to add another alias to her account using your email. However, when you try to do that, it says that your email is already in use. This is because your email is already associated with another Microsoft account, which is your own account that has no data on it.



To resolve this issue, you have two options:



Option 1: You can remove your email from your own Microsoft account and then add it as an alias to your girlfriend's account. This way, you will have one Microsoft account with two aliases: your girlfriend's email and your email. You will be able to sign in to your Xbox account with either alias and access the same data and settings. However, this also means that you will lose access to your own Microsoft account and any services or subscriptions that are linked to it.



Option 2: You can keep your email on your own Microsoft account and then add a different alias to your girlfriend's account. This way, you will have two separate Microsoft accounts: one with your girlfriend's email as the primary alias and one with your email as the primary alias. You will be able to sign in to your Xbox account with either account and access the same data and settings. However, this also means that you will have to manage two accounts and switch between them when needed.

Greetings Sosa271! To be clear, you have your main Microsoft account email (let's call it email 1) linked to a second gamertag that you did not select (we can call it gamertag B) and what you'd like to do is link email 1 to that original gamertag A? If that's
the case, it sounds like you might need to
Switch gamertags between two Microsoft accounts, can I have you check out the support article linked there and let us know if that helps! Keep us posted.

Then, as an alternative, can I change the email that is linked to the information? Or somehow link two mails to the account?

You can
change the email associated to that gamertag, but you can never delete the old email or all information is gonna be deleted. This is know as "alias" this means that you create another alias (email address) to the same Microsoft Account.

Ahh I think I see what's going on here SassierRope643! You do in fact need to switch your account to a 3rd email as has been suggested. Before you can switch your gamertag in this case, you must first remove the existing gamertag from that Microsoft account:



Create a new Microsoft account. You will only need this new account as a temporary means of moving your gamertags. After the gamertags have been switched, you will no longer need this Microsoft account.



Example:

Gamertag A is linked to Microsoft account 1.

Gamertag B is linked to Microsoft account 2.

To swap gamertags A and B between Microsoft accounts 1 and 2, first create a third temporary account: Microsoft account 3

Switch the gamertag that is linked to the Microsoft account you want to use to the new temporary account you just created.



Example:

Gamertag A remains linked to Microsoft account 1.

Switch gamertag B to Microsoft account 3.

Microsoft account 2 is now free.

Now switch your gamertag to the Microsoft account you want to use.



Example:

Switch gamertag A to Microsoft account 2.

Gamertag B remains linked to Microsoft account 3.

Microsoft account 1 is now free.

To complete the swap of gamertags between the two original Microsoft accounts, you must wait 30 days. (A gamertag can be switched only once every 30 days.)



Example:

Gamertag A remains linked to Microsoft account 2.

After 30 days, switch gamertag B to Microsoft account 1.

Microsoft account 3 is now free and no longer needed.

To make these Microsoft Account email changes (since you can't on the console) you can do so on account.live.com and select 'Update Email'! Let me know if this helps resolve the issue.
