Two gamertags after changing. Fortnite uses old tag

I’ve changed my Xbox gamertag 5 days ago but now I’m stuck with two gamertags in my profile. The old tag is still the one showing up in Fortnite. I’ve also changed my Fortnite display name. Why are there two tags showing in my profile, and how can I get the new one applied in Fortnite?

Hi Henriksen, my name is Joel, I'm here to help you with any problems or questions you may have.

Henriksen, what you observe is something relatively normal that happens when you just change the gamertag of an account, this is exclusively because it takes a while for this new gamertag to be updated throughout the network and in all games. Once fully updated, the old gamertag will disappear from your account and only the new one will be displayed in all games.

Here is a
LINK that will guide you through that. If the tag is on an old account of yours then you will have to do two changes. One to get it off the old account and one to put it on your current account and there will be a charge for both.

Fortnite was released before the new gamertag policy went into place and does not support that policy. So you'll see the old tag in the game.

As mentioned, a forced gamertag change will happen when people report your gamertag as offensive, and XBLPET reviews it and enacts the change.

There is no warning when this happens. You'll get a generated tag. The old one is blacklisted and you'll never be able to get it back. If you want another chance at a new custom gamer tag, you'll have to pay the same fee as everyone else who wants a new
tag (forced change or not).

They used to let you change your gamertag for free after a forced change, but this was removed after people started abusing it with newer offensive gamertags.

As a final note, XBLPET, the people in charge of bans, suspensions, and your gamertag change, do not browse the forums and nobody here will be able to help you further.

fortnite tag has to be changed via the epic account via epic website, it is free to do once per 2 weeks. epic uses their own gamertag system in their games.
