TV catchup apps won't play videos.

I just bought an Xbox one S as a birthday present to myself. It works fine, except for one ridiculous problem - I am using TV apps, eg BBC IPlayer and All4 to try to watch programs, but they just won't play. The app loads, the listings are there, I can
drill down to the episode, I can even click the "accept and play" button for mature content.

But all I ever get is "Well this is embarrassing. Something's not working. Please try again in a few minutes". Or the BBC error message "Something went wrong with loading this programme". (02001 - all I can find on Google is this error in relation to
smart TVs)

I've been trying this for 2 days, it never works.

Yet by the side of the Xbox one I stil have my trusty old 360 - and the same apps on that are working just fine, so there is no problem with the TV servers, my connection etc as both machines are plugged into the same router and the One has had no issues
downloading 6GB of addons today.

It's a bit ridiculous that I've just bought one of the most advanced consoles on the planet that's supposed to be a one stop entertainment centre, but have to keep turning it off and use its predecessor every time I want to use one of these apps. First
world problem, but irritating!

All updates have installed etc, no other problems, been playing Fallout 4 for hours.

But it won't play these videos via these apps. Amazon Video works. Based in UK. Console bought from major chain store. Isp is BT.

Anyone have any ideas?!

They should work more on the features for Xbox One

True Enen. However technically if you watch only catchup TV on your PC, Xbox, smart TV etc,. then you don't need a TV license.

BBC iPlayer, 4OD, ITV Player ect for the most part fall under catchup TV.

Oddly enough the BBC and the Government are trying to close that loop hole. After all can't have people not playing their TV Tax.

@smiles in Oz we have ABC iview and channel 10 app and 11 maybe? These function as catchup TV apps. Quite good but I run a twin tuner recorder on my other TV so I can basically record all the shows I miss anyway.

 

Update on this - I tried installing 5onDemand and this app won't even load.

This is a brand new Xbox One, out of the box, and the functionality is useless for an entertainment console.

What are my options? Anyone have ANY idea?

 

Contacted seller who gave me Microsoft support number, now been in a queue for over 30 minutes listening to some guy talking garbage,

What absolute utter rubbish, think I will return the Xbox One and get a PS4 instead, maybe Sony will actually have something that works?

 

Spoke to an ambassador/experienced expert who said they had no idea at all.

Great, a problem nobody has an answer to!

There has to be some logic to this - I've been advised to exchange the console but I think if one has this problem, another identical one is not going to be any different?

To answer my own question, I exchanged the console (but I had to get a different version, I had bought an Xbox 3 moth Gold pass bundle but opted to get the PUBG bundle instead.

As soon as I opened the box I noticed a difference - there was a warning sticker on the disc drive, which the first one didn't have. Also, the first start up screen was very different.

Went through all the updates, loaded the TV apps, and they all work fine on this new console.

I still have no idea what happened here - why would a console be THAT defective?

I went into a Game store and asked one of the expert staff, they said it was nothing to do with the console and I should contact the apps maker as they were at fault (yeah right, BBC etc!) - and that changing the console would make no difference.

Hmm...

There's 6 hours of my life I won't be getting back. Too tired to play Fallout 4 now which was the only reason I bought the bugger....
