Turning off Xbox controller for Windows desktop?

I don't even know what to call this or refer to it as. The controller is acting as a second mouse, moving the right stick moves the cursor, left moves web pages up and down etc. How can I disable that or turn it off? I don't know if this is a controller
thing or if it's Steam related but it's super annoying and I think it's the reason I'm having trouble using the controller in games.

I tried to follow the steps from this post: https://support.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-on-windows/accessories/calibrate-xbox-360-controller-for-windows

But I can't actually do the calibration test because if I move the left stick to the left for example, it swaps the tab from Test to Settings, so I can't actually test it. Similarly, If I move the left stick to the right it swaps the tab back to Test.

The game I'm having issues with specifically is Fable 3 as it's one of the few games I use a controller over mouse&keyboard. I detailed my issues with it here via Steam discussions: https://steamcommunity.com/app/105400/discussions/0/1837937637889466476/

Not sure if that adds anything helpful. I haven't tested any other games I use the controller only with recently so I can't say if they're not working right either.

Hi,

The Xbox 360 controller won't be able to mimic or emulate the mouse on its own by default. To do this you must have installed some type of third party software. I'm going to assume this is what you've done to get a controller to work in the game?

If so, closing down said application will prevent the controller from working as a mouse.

As I understand it, Fable III has Xbox controller support built into the game already.

Once you’ve got UAC turned on go ahead and restart EA Desktop App and the Xbox App. You should then be able to simply click the install links on the Xbox App and it will open EA Desktop and begin downloading your titles.

Also, just to confirm, I went ahead and set up media sharing on my Windows 7 desktop to test (with Windows Firewall turned off) - still nothing found on the media player app.

This is an issue that anyone with "User Account Controls" turned off will get (and something that Microsoft does a terrible job telling people about). When it's turned off it, apparently, causes the "Game Pass" app to be unable to spawn or connect to the "EA Desktop" app.

If you don't know how to turn it on, go to the search function in Windows 10, type "UAC", click the link and slide the option up. I slide mine to the top, though it would probably work with any choice that isn't fully off.
