Trying to get back progress from MS version Forza Horizon 5 after buying steam version

unfortunately, the devs aren't intelligent enough to allow this or any kind of cross save or cross progression, unlike other games that have this feature and they work great.

Are you trying to use your Forza horizon 5 progress in the same platform?

For example, the old laptop has the Steam version of the game and you have the Steam version as well in your new laptop

I ask this because progress between the Microsoft store / Xbox app version of the game and Steam can't be shared

You need to start from the scratch if you start playing using the other version

Hello Dan, you don’t need to worry about the local saves' folder. That’s only for the Microsoft store version.

I understand the Forza Horizon support didn’t provide an accurate answer at the moment. However, please try clarifying one more time that you lost your progress on the Steam version, and you want to get it back.

Unfortunately, your game progress from the Xbox version of Forza Horizon 4 isn’t transferred over when

you purchase the steam version. Only leaderboards and clubs as one per gamertag, are unaffected by this. Share codes can also be used anywhere.

As stated in the Forza Horizon 4 on Steam FAQ:

Q: If I already play Forza Horizon 4 on another platform, will my game progress carry over to Steam if I buy the Steam version?

A: Your save file on Steam is completely unique and separate from any pre-existing save file that’s associated with your Xbox Live gamertag, due to technical limitations. This includes user generated content like liveries, layer groups, blue prints, etc...
