Trying to change account settings without the family group

Hello Zachary, by your description your account is in a family, in this case only the host who will be able to give permission so that you can make the privacy exchanges of your account.

If you want your account to no longer belong to the family, you'll need to ask the host account to remove your account, and then you can make any changes you want in privacy.

Go to: https://www.xbox.com/

After entering, click the profile picture in the upper right corner, and choose "Xbox Profile", then on the next page click on "Privacy Settings" and will open the "Privacy & online safety" page.

Make the changes you want and click save at the bottom of the page.

You should try to locate that email in some way, either through friends or family who remember it or who have received emails from that account. You cannot change the privacy settings and restrictions of a child account without being the organizer of the family group, nor can you recover an account without knowing the email, due to obvious privacy policies.

your account is a Child account. to change the privacy settings you will need an Adult account in the same Microsoft Family Group to change them.

Did you try to sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/family/ ?

Can you send me a screenshot of your account on the webpage above showing that you're not on a Family Group?

Because if you're not on a Family Group, you should be able to change your privacy settings and shouldn't receive the "why can’t I change my privacy settings?" message.

Xbox Live Privacy Settings from the Xbox?

article to try to change the settings to your account on xbox.com

In regards to the new account you set up and why it's not letting you set up a family group with your main account, it may be due to the fact that your main account is already associated to a family group. You cannot be in two family groups.
