  1. Troubleshooting 4K UHD Resolution on Xbox One X

I have an Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition and a Samsung 65JU7100 4K TV. Each time I try to switch the resolution from 1080p to 4K UHD, I get an error stating "That didn't work. There might be a problem displaying 4K on your TV. For more info, choose Help."
Under 4K TV details, I have 9 green checkmarks saying my TV supports 4K and HDR. Under Advanced Video Settings, I have all boxes checked for games and apps and my TV connection is on Auto-Connect. Anyone else having issues? Xbox Assist and Xbox Support online
do not have any guidance. I've switched HDMI cables, powered TV, console, and router off/on, tried all HDMI ports on TV.

Long story short, this setting affects the display resolution of the games and apps. While Forza 7 looks improved, I doubt it is displaying in 4K due to this setting. Youtube and Netflix are also in HD instead of 4K despite displaying in 4K through the Smart
    TV apps.

    :)

  3. 4 K Gameplay with a Monitor

    Hello LimetteZero88,

If I understand you correctly, I don't think the problem is 50Hz versus 60Hz. In deed, the Xbox One S has the ability to display 3840x2160 4K UHD at 24 Hz, 50 Hz, or 60 Hz, see "Troubleshooting
4K and HDR on Xbox One S
" . Also, when you say "4 K Gameplay", the Xbox
One and One S can only renders games at a maximum resolution of 1920x1080. But, the One S can take those HD games and upscale them to 3840x2160 4K UHD. For information on how to select upscaling see, "4K
    on Xbox One S
" . Letting your display do the upscaling (interpolation) and making some changes in the "...display settings on your Xbox One console" might
get things working together. For example, disable upscaling on the One S and set its output to 720p. However, the real problem here seems to be one of resolution
and aspect ratio. 1280x720, 1920x1080 HD and 3840x2160 4K UHD all have an aspect ratio of 16:9. Where as, 3440x1440 is an aspect ratio of 21:9. And currently the Xbox One S does not support 21:9. As far as the Xbox
    One X
, I have seen no information other than full 16:9 3840x2160 4K UHD gaming and play back. And that the One X will support AMD FreeSync. However, it is my understanding that the Asus ROG SWIFT PG348Q employs Nvidia's proprietary G-Sync.

  4. Troubleshooting 4K UHD Resolution on Xbox One X

I think I had the same exact issue as you with my 65" Samsung TV (although my model is the UN65KU6290FXZA). So it appears the Xbox One X defaults to 1080p on initial setup. My settings backup on my external HDD did not transfer display settings. My TV shows
all green checkmarks in the "4K TV Details" page, though. After some fiddling with both the Xbox and TV settings, I did manage to get it running on 4K+HDR normally now. I am assuming your Samsung TV has almost the same UI as mine.

While I am unsure of how exactly I fixed it, my own troubleshooting process seemed to work itself out. I remember it well because I literally did it all a few hours ago before this post. The bolded parts may be the important bits that helped solve my problem.

    • While the Xbox was on, I disabled UHD color in the TV settings: Settings > Picture > Expert Settings >HDMI UHD Color > Set HDMI 1 to "Off" (Xbox is connected to HDMI 1)
    • Performed a power cycle on the console.
    • Turned the TV off and on (Xbox still off).
    • Set HDMI 1 back to "on" for UHD color. (Xbox still off).
    • Turned Xbox back on, let it boot up normally, and get back into the display settings.
    • Set color depth to "30 bits per pixel (10-bit)", left color space to "Standard".
    • Set TV resolution to 4K UHD... works now! Weird.
    • I noticed as I ran the 4K-enabled games with HDR, the output goes blank and the TV thinks there's nothing connected.
    • My Xbox was not broken though, I could still tap the Xbox Guide button, and press "A" to get back to the home screen like normal.
    • Seemed like an HDR issue, so I looked into the Advanced Video Settings in the Xbox.
    • I left everything checked except "Allow YCC 4:2:2". ("Allow 3D" is greyed out as my TV does not support 3D).
    • Now, I could play any 4K+HDR game. I was successfully able to play the Star Wars Battlefront II trial on EA Access for a few hours without a hitch.
Sorry if this was all lengthy, but this might hopefully help you since we both have a Samsung TV and we're both setting up the Xbox One X.
