trouble with 8bitdo controller on PC

Try to connect it via Bluetooth or USB cable whichever works. I also suggest to try a different controller to isolate the issue.

All three controllers work on other PC's, all three controllers work on emulators and steam games, its specifically a gamepass issue.

Well you can rule out issues with the controller then. As I said before, it sounds like an issue with Windows itself.

If you like the feel of a PS type controllers. I can highly recommend an 8Bitdo Pro 2 wireless or 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired Controller. Both of which support XINPUT which is a requirement of Windows GamePass titles.

While they aren't big controllers, bit 8BitDo have a couple of controllers you might be interested in.

Other than that, the only huge controller I'm aware of is the Hyperkin Duke that Sword mentioned.

Most PC games can be played perfectly fine with a controller. You won't even need to change the buttons, just plug the controller in and launch the game. As long as the controller supports XINPUT (Xbox 360, Xbox One or Series XS controllers are the most compatible) you're good to go.

If you're feeling a little nostalgic, the 8Bitdo Pro 2 is a great PC controller that's fully XINPUT compatible. It also works on Android, Nintendo Switch and the Raspberry Pi. It's like a cross between a NES, SNES and PlayStation Controller.

....just microsoft being picky and trying to make everyone buy an xbox controller or a licenced third party controller.

It's not that 'picky'. The controller that the OP has is a cheap Chinese imitation Xbox 360 type pad, which from the looks of it doesn't support Xinput.

If you have an Xinput controller supported it will work with Windows Store games, it doesn't matter what the make is. My controller of choice is the 8Bitdo SN30 Pro+ it's not licensed by Microsoft and works on everything.
