Trouble transferring from internal to external drive

Thanks, Can I transfer from the external to the internal hard drive or is it one way?

The external hard drive was around 20% full. After the I formatted the external hard drive it went down to 0% as everything was uninstalled. Thing is i tried transfering Battlefield 1 from the internal hard drive to the now empty external hard drive and
it started transferring. Battlefield 1 was one of the games that just stopped installing/transferring when i wanted to move from the internal to the external hard drive so i might of fixed the problem. Now i am just concerned that the games that were uninstalled
will not have anyting saved and i will have lost everything.

If you head to Settings>System>Storage on the console, and make sure that the external hard drive is set as the default download location for the console, do you see any difference if you try the update again after that?

If you're still seeing trouble with the external set as the default download location, try transferring some of the content installed on the internal drive to the external drive to make space for the updates on the internal drive, and let us know if you're
able to access GTA online with the update installed to the internal drive.

To transfer games from the internal hard drive to an external hard drive on an Xbox Series S or X, navigate to "My games & apps", select the game you want to transfer, choose "Move or Copy", then select the external drive as the destination and confirm.

I don't believe that there's anyway for me to set the external hard drive as the default. I've tried transferring content over to make room but as my Xbox is only 4GB I'm still struggling to download it. I ordered an internal hard drive, as I read that realistically
that should contribute to increasing my internal drive space, should this solve the issue??
