Triggers not working with PC games using Xbox one controller

Finally found a possible solution if your controller worked properly with windows 7.

By replacing the "xinputhid.sys" file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers with the same file from C:\Windows.old\Windows\System32\drivers I finally got my controller to work.

Hopefully this is easily understandable, I'm rather tired.

Here's the obligatory I can't be responsible for any damage to your PC notice.

Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and locate the xinputhid.sys file.

You will need to take control/ownership of the file. To do this right click on the file and click on "Properties" go to the "Security" tab and click "Advanced" locate the owner line (the current owner should be "TrustedInstaller") click "Change". Type in
your windows username and click "Check Names" your name should be slightly changed and/or underlined now, click "OK" until back the the "Security" tab then click on "Edit..." select "Users" and click on the "Allow" box next to "Full control", make sure all
"Allow" boxes are now checked and press "Apply". Close all windows except the file browser opened to the "Drivers" folder and move the xinputhid.sys file to your desktop or somewhere else for convenient temporary storage.(Just in case this somehow makes your
controller even less functional)

Now for the replacement file.

Navigate to C:\Windows.old\Windows\System32\drivers and locate the xinputhid.sys file there

Copy that file to C:\Windows\System32\drivers (You may have to take control of this file too, just do the same as before)

Play some games to make sure your controller is now working properly.

Delete the xinput.sys file you moved to your desktop earlier if your controller is now working properly.

Similar problem here. "Updated" from windows 7 because some VR games required it, my xbox controller is now a useless brick! My controller does show up in device manager and the drivers are up to date, however, I get a screen telling me to connect a controller
despite one ALREADY BEING CONNECTED! Triggers did not work in any games that treat them as buttons but after playing some driving games with analog controls I found out the triggers only work up to 25%! Infuriating!

Do the triggers work when you test them in Windows?

In Windows 8.1 search for your controllers by typing in USB in the search box. Select 'Set up USB Game Controllers'. In the next window, click on the 'Properties' button. Pressing the triggers should show the Z Axis going up and down - depending on what trigger
is pressed. If the Z Axis does not move, there is something wrong with your controller.

Whether the triggers will work in your game, depends on whether the game you are playing supports the triggers or not. Games that support the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controller natively will support the triggers, other games may not.

O.K., Well apparently the problems I've had are limited to a single game, "Max, the curse of the Brotherhood" (my 6 yr olds) The few others I've tested (GTA5, Battlefield Hardline) are working fine with no false detection of trigger pulls.That being said
the offending game worked good using Xbox One controller through USB using the drivers not designated by Windows 10 but through the installation of the Win 7/8 driver found here. wccftech.com/xbox-controller-pc-drivers-download-courtesy-major-nelson

This is a new installation but I'll try reinstallation.

There are many other threads on Reddit, too. I thought that the issue would have been fixed from Xbox Game Pass, caught by a quality check for a Microsoft published platform but evidently this slipped through.
