    have an xbox one and I just found my hard drive from my xbox 360, thought it was lost. I don't have the xbox 360, just the hard drive. How do I transfer my game saves from the 360 to my xbox one? Will a transfer cable work? thanks in advance.

    Recently I purchased a brand new Xbox 360 to replace my old one.
    I purchased also with it a 250 GB hard drive and a transfer cable. (Per, the instructions on the Xbox website to transfer media and licenses to my new 360)
    I live in central Montana without ready access to broadband internet and have a satellite service provider.
    I was able to MOSTLY transfer previously downloaded games and content from my old Xbox hard drive to my new one.
    When I logged online to complete the license transfer I was informed that would include the downloading the entire purchase all over again.
    Due to my location I frequently play my Xbox without being connected to the internet.
    Now I am unable to play my prior purchased items without being connected to Xbox live.
    My complaints are as follows: first, the transfer cable is completely useless, it serves no point for any individual to transfer their media if you have to go online and download it separately again, there is no savings in time.
    Secondly, nowhere at any location during my diligent process of following instructions did it say anywhere the process of transferring licenses is downloading the content again and that Microsoft Xbox prefers the use of broadband internet as opposed
    to satellite provided internet. Had I known these items I wouldn't have purchased a new Xbox to replace my mostly functional, overly noisy, and oversized, with little storage space Xbox.
    Now, I am only able to play my games while connected to Xbox live.
    I am very frustrated at my experience with Xbox and expect a prompt reply to this post as to how the issue will be fixed (through the posting of appropriate information on the website) and the matter will be resolved with me, the customer.

    The only way to transfer 360 saves is through the cloud. There is no way to transfer them directly from the hard drive.

    Thanks for reaching out, iamgroovy!

    As Smwutches mentioned, you would need to upload the save games to the cloud, after which they'll sync to the Xbox One console from there when you launch the title on the Xbox One console.

    You'll need to connect your Xbox 360 hard drive to an Xbox 360 console long enough to upload those saves to the cloud first. There's more info in the

    Xbox 360 Cloud Saves FAQ     that can help you out with that, if you need it.

    deleting the data on the old drive?[/quote]Once connected, cancel all the dialogs, then go to Storage. You'll see a Transfer Cable device listed along with your HDD. Data can be Copied or Moved to and from the Transfer Cable just like any other Storage Device,
    with the same restrictions. Some game saves cannot be Copied, but can be Moved. Some cannot be Copied or Moved. DLC should be Copyable.
    The documentation with the transfer cable says it will erase the old hard drive when it transfers data.
    Originally,
    the software included on CD would copy the entire source drive wholesale and then format the old drive. The new Transfer software included in the console does a Move of Movable files (games installed from DVD are not Movable). I don't think it formats the
    source drive, but I could be wrong.



    I'm not a fan of Moving content if there's an option to Copy content. It takes longer to manually Copy, but you retain a backup copy on the old drive.

    The transfer cable only serves to move files, not transfer licenses. Also, when completing the online license transfer, you don't have to redownload the content. This option is merely here for convenience. If any downloads do start, feel free to cancel them,
    as this is only the file, not the license. If after completing the license transfer process you are still unable to use your content offline or on other accounts, please contact phone support in your region (support.xbox.com/.../contact-us.aspx)

    You cannot transfer installed games over as it says when you try to do it. If you are planning on using the hard drive in a new console, even if you managed to get the files over, an installed game must be played with the console it was originally installed
    on and would not work.

    Actually, you CAN use the Transfer cable and an old hard drive and plug it in, but it will act like a USB Flash drive and therefore, you will only be able to use 16 GB of the hard drive.

    If you have a old 20 GB hard drive, then you could do this, but I wouldn't recommend it for any of the bigger hard drives due to the fact that you wouldn't be using the hard drive up to its full potential!
