  1. total mess after changing my son's account to a child account

When I bought my son (11) an xbox I set him up on it using my microsoft account.

He has since got into Fortnite.

I wanted to restrict screen time, so:

I set up a new microsoft account

Converted my date of birth on my old microsoft account to properly reflect his age

Added my new microsoft account to the xbox one

Added my converted microsoft account to a Family Account on Xbox one (as a child)

And set up basic screen time restrictions

My son, and my old microsoft account, is now locked out of Fortnite. No amount of fiddling with restriction settings is making any difference, and I can't even change the DOB back to what it was and fix it back to how it was.

I need help, and fast: he's been playing Fortnite for MONTHS, and he'll go crackers if he can't log into his old account....

    SERIOUSLY. I need help.

    SOON.

    :)

total mess after changing my son's account to a child account

    Hello Nicholas,

Sorry to hear about the issue with the accounts. Lets start with the first issue your sons old account. When any account is created including your old account whatever birthdate is set on the console is
the birthdate in place until that profile turns 18. Example your sons first account lets say age is 11, you can change the birthdate on Microsoft website but not on Xbox.com it is locked. That brings us to your old account. If it was an adult account already
the birthday will reflect that and wont be able to change it to a child.

Now comes the second matter of using different account for Fortnite. When an account first starts out on Fortnite you create an epic account which is what Fortnite uses. When you switch profiles and are
trying to access that same account you cant do to it is linked to the other account.

I would like you to go to
    Account website
and try and sign in with your sons old account. Also sign in with your old account change the birthdate back to adult. If successful signing in on the website, then go to the console and sign in on that account again. Also try signing into
the epic account he had originally. Once you change the birthdate on your old account back to what it was

add to family as a parent.

There are certain features your son wont be able to access if the birthdate is set to 11 and that is cross play. which is done intentionally due to Microsoft wants the parents to be able to control the
cross play of the children. Unfortunately that setting isn't implemented currently but will be soon on the parent family settings.

If any of this leaves you with questions please be sure to reply and I will help you further.

    Thanks,

    Brad

    Hello Nicholas,

Also a side note when you changed your account to child and set it up as child, you basically removed the parent account and orphaned the two accounts. Birthdate mismatches will create a lot of issues with accounts.

    Thanks,

Xbox: I fell completely ripped off.

You should set up a seperate account for your son if you are worries about your child messing with your main account.

Child account is parent account. How to change without child losing all of his gaming data?

If its an adult account then that means the date of birth that was selected when the account was made would make it over 18 years old. If that is the case then there is no way to make it a child account. There is no way to change the date of birth on an
Xbox live account after it has been changed.

The only way for your son to have a child account would be to make then a brand new account and select the correct date of birth for your son. Your son however would lose all save game progress from the adult account as nothing is transferrable between accounts.
