Today shows why an online only console should never happen

I turn on my console today and am required to update the system; no problem. When I'm done updating, I cannot sign in. I check out the status of Xbox Live and once again there is an outage for Xbox Live and it displays the following message:

"You may not be able to sign-in to your Xbox profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems. Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won't be available."

In case it didn't register for you, let me repeat that last part (emphasis mine): "Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won't be available."

Essentially, because with the newer consoles you must be signed in online to access the content you paid for when this happens you cannot access your content at all! Why can I not sign into the console offline and only have access to things that have the licenses assigned to our consoles (you know, like on the 360)? I just came back from travelling for work and, while I took a COVID test before returning that showed a negative result, I still have to "self-quarantine" which means I cannot just go out and do something while my console refuses to let me access the content I've paid for.

Does anybody else feel this way or am I just acting crazy here?
