I just purchased the Xbox Game Pass for PC games. I'm using the Microsoft account I have had for years. My age on my account is accurate. I'm 30 years old, so I'm pretty sure I'm old enough to play games rated T for Teen. However, I keep getting this error message:

This is rated above [gamertag]'s Restrictions

GAME is rated above the restrictions set on this account. To install, please ask an adult to sign in and download. Or you can continue to browse hundres of games in the store.

Here are the unsuccessful steps I took to attempt to resolve:

First, I checked my account to make sure birthday is accurate. It is.

I checked Family settings to make sure I am the only person listed on the account. I am.

I changed my birthdate to one day previous, logged out of Game Pass, uninstalled, reinstalled, logged back in, and tried downloading a game. I got the same error message.

I chatted with the online support bot - it couldn't understand my issue.

I called Customer Support. The agent couldn't assist me and had to ask her support team for help. They couldn't assist either and put me on hold to transfer to a different department. The call was disconnected and I wasn't able to speak to anyone. I would call back but have you ever tried reaching a specific department in a call center? I'd have better luck winning the lottery.

This is my last ditch effort at a resolution; otherwise, I guess I'll be cancelling and requesting a refund for this Xbox Game Pass.

Thankfully I found a solution. I went to my programs and chose to "repair" the Xbox app. I also downloaded the iPhone Game Pass app. I restarted my computer and installed a game using the app on my phone. Now I can download games from the app on my PC with no issues. Hopefully this is a permanent fix.

To fix this issue, go to the Xbox app and then on the top bar, select your Profile picture. There, select Sign out. Right after, sign in to your Xbox Live profile (Microsoft account) again, and the issue should be fixed.

To confirm, are you trying to download it from a Windows 10 or Windows 11 machine?

Let’s check if you’re using an adult account or a child account by checking your account privacy settings via https://account.xbox.com/Settings. If you could access your privacy settings, that would mean that you’re using an adult account. But if you were redirected to a different page, you’re using a child account where you need to be added to a family group because only an organizer or adult account can change a child’s privacy settings.

I went into my settings and "changed" my birthday i.e just filled out the info again, saved it, logged out and back in and it worked.
