Xbox support mentioned that they are aware of reports of Xbox One console startup, title update and sign-in errors. Our teams have identified the cause for our earlier issues and are continuing to address these now.

It's due to a current service alert so support wouldn't be able to do anything, but to contact support you would need to go to http://support.xbox.com/contact-us and click
show more options below the virtual agent. After you choose another topic it should give you options to chat or request a call back. If you don't see those options, you would need to choose another category/topic.

I just read a confirmation from an Xbox support agent, that the line through the microphone is really an issue that affects a few customers.

In order to contact a real life person from the support team, do this:

Go to
https://support.xbox.com/contact-us

Click on the Xbox One icon on the page.

If a box with a virtual agent shows up, click on "No Thanks..." or "See other options"

Click on "Set up my Xbox One Console" under "Xbox & Accessories".

At the bottom, click on the "Show contact options" button.

Depending on the time of day and times of operation of the official support in your country, you can request a callback or use a text based chat to contact a real life human being from the support team to get your son's microphone issue resolved.
