They do not charge basic Xbox Live services (like the store) on me Xbox One and other devices.

EA are to greedy good on game for standing up to them.

The problem is with Live, you're not getting any real upgrades... You're paying for a basic service that noone else charges for. I'm sorry, but the ability to simply play the games you own is a basic service (one that Sony & Nintendo do not charge for).
Tell me this... Do the stations on satellite radio charge you yet agan (on top of the initial service fee) to listen to each individual one? And would you pay for your service if if only the manufacturer of your specific radio charged for it, while it came
free with all other radios?

True story, on PC the likes of EA, Ubisoft, etc. were all looking to charge you $15/mo to play their games. This sparked due to the popularity of MMO subscriptions like WoW. EA figured if WoW can charge people $15/mo to play their game, then a game like Battlefield should be able to do the same to support their server costs. At the same time, Valve was looking into doing similar things, but more unified. Similar to PS+ and Live. Valve was looking to unify the publishers into a single subscription model as part of the Steam service. When MS caught wind of this, they announced that they would be coming out with Games for Windows Live. Which was a service that would be included with Xbox Live. Pay $50/year and get both Live on Xbox and PC. As consumer feedback started coming in, Valve knew they could use the opportunity as a marketing tactic and that's what they did. Despite looking into charging for their own service, they saw the backlash that Games for Windows Live had created. A lot of people were comparing it to Steam and how Steam was free. Valve decided that it would be corporate suicide to continue with the plan of charging for their service. Basically they let Microsoft fall on that sword and turned the opportunity into a great marketing ploy for themselves.

So in a way you can thank Microsoft for these services being free on PC, because if they had not done Games for Windows Live then Steam would be a paid service or you'd be paying to play each game individually if EA and others had their way.
