Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. There is an audio setting called chat mixer which balances the party chat volume with the rest of the volume on the console. The article entitled

Hello -Khia-, sorry to hear you're having trouble with your audio.

Which model headset are you using please? It may be that it uses a separate mixer for the chat and game volume. If it does not then you can either tap the Guide button on your controller and scroll down to the audio icon in the lower right corner to adjust your mixer volume there or go into your Volume Settings on the console then select Additional Option and then Chat Mixer. Here you'll want to set it to reduce the volume of other sounds by 50%.

Some options appear grayed out if you are using an accessory that takes advantage of the audio mixer functionality or if you are using hardware where audio adjustments are made on the hardware itself (for example, a Chatpad or some third-party headsets).

Check if there is no accessory that is using the audio mixer function and that is why they appear grayed out.

Tell me from which device are you using the headphones? Depending on that, we can guide you through some possible solutions.

Thanks for reply and update on the issue with not being able to hear the background audio.

To help clarify:

• When you talk about background audio, are you referring to the in-game music and sfx.
  
• Does this happen in every game?
• Have you tried another controller?
• Have you checked the audio settings?
