There is any chance to claim a gamertag reset for an inactive account?

We understand that there is a gamertag that you would prefer to have belonging to an account that you claim is inactive.

Unfortunately, our forums community does not have the tools necessary for assisting with these types of situations, and can only suggest waiting out the closing of the account by the owner as there are no further steps to provide in regards to this subject.

Microsoft has stated previously that an account must be inactive for a minimum of 2 years before being designated as inactive. After that period, the gamertag can be reclaimed by a new account. Before then, there is no way to claim the gamertag if it is
linked to an account that has not been inactive for two years.

I believe that it is unfair that 98% of all original gamertags are inactive and have be inactive for many, many months/ years. I have always wanted an original tag but it always seems someone has already taken in on an inactive account that has not be sign
into for years. This is unfair because many people creating accounts with original gamertags forgetting the email and password to sign in to them and even play on them. Original gamertags should be reset it the account shows no sign of life or activity for
more then a year. The least the person can do is sign in on Xbox.com. Don't do anything to their account but just refresh the gamertags to give someone else a chance.

Interesting ! Didn't know that either.

But since it is so then it's like somebody else has already claimed the gamertag you would like to have. Only chance for you would be that the other gamertag was freed for inactivity after some years.

PS: Only problem is, that you can't really see if an account is active or not. Even if it's inactive on Xbox it still could be active on other devices.
