The inability to change the Xbox username from "GimGiwer" to "gimgiwer".

The free change is for accounts that received a randomly generated Gamertag.

If you have a custom one, you have to pay for the change.

And to be able to do it, you will have to do it twice, as ngocphi explained, since it will tell you you already own the "gimgiwer" gamertag.

You can but you gotta do it twice

Onetime to something else and then one-time back assuming it's not already taken

Keep in mind it will tell you if it's taken when you reattempt

But at this point I wouldn't bother because it will cost you twice

If you wanted lower case you should've done it in the first place all platforms but steam and epic have it free change but majority of platforms ain't free

got help from xbox support (jeprey c.), just change minecraft username on their website
