The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Game Of The Year)(PC) not launching with PC Game Pass.

Here's the issue. TES IV: Oblivion and TES III: Morrowind are both refusing to launch more than once after being downloaded from Game Pass. There are no mods installed, and other games (such as DOOM Eternal and Minecraft) launch with no issues. The first and only launch it will let me make must be done by running the shortcut as an administrator (which can't always be done, as this is a family computer and I do not have admin), and after this, all attempts to launch the game simply don't register. The launcher doesn't even show up in task manager. This effects *all* users on the PC, including the admin. The game will simply not launch unless it is uninstalled and run as admin, and this process must be repeated every single time.

OS is Windows 11, GPU is Radeon 5 RX 580, CPU is a Ryzen 5 2600X, but I don't think this is a hardware issue given that I do get one successful launch, and that these are games optimized for PCs from the early-mid 2000s.

This does not appear to be an issue with Game Pass due to DOOM launching with no problems, but I thought posting here could help. Could someone explain to me how to mitigate this? All other game pass games seem to work fine, and neither Steam, nor Epic Games Store games I have purchased have these problems. It is just these two games on PC Game Pass.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was never on Game Pass Core. The game is only available on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Oblivion is not moddable on the game pass or windows store version.

No game is moddable unless it is specifically designated as such in the description

I'm using Windows 11. Do these solutions still work?

No I do not have admin privileges. My father who has Game Pass Ultimate and admin privileges on a separate account is unable to play Elder Scrolls III and IV. Antivirus and firewall could be the issue, but it wouldn't explain why the game is able to launch once before refusing to launch.

I'm willing to try these solutions, but they seem to be optimized for Windows 10 as opposed to Windows 11.

So, when you are running things as Admin you are overriding anything that might be stopping a program or app from running. Also, thank you for confirming your OS and the suggestions I have presented are for both Windows 10/11 users. I also want to suggest one more thing.

Try reinstalling the Gaming Services package on your Windows 10 device:

Right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the main screen, and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
In the Administrator: Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:
Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers

Solution 1:

Play games offline on Windows 10 using Offline mode; this error could also be attributed to issues with the Microsoft store not recognizing your entitlement to the game. Then scroll down and click on the drop-down arrow and look at the steps for How to enable offline play on your device

Solution 2: Reset Windows 10 store & Xbox app

1. Open Settings.

2. Go to Apps -> Apps & features.

3. On the right side, look for Microsoft Store/Xbox App and click it.

4. The advanced options link will appear. Click it

5. Next, click on the Reset button to reset Microsoft Store/Xbox App to default settings.

Solution 4: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files If some Windows functions aren't working or Windows crashes, use the System File Checker to scan Windows and restore your files. Sometimes corrupted files can cause issues.
