Thanks for reaching out to the forums today. I'm sorry to hear about the gamertag change issue. Does anyone else use the account as well? How long ago did you make your account? Do you recall ever making a change before to the gamer tag?

As it states on our article
"How to change your Xbox gamer tag": If you created your own gamertag at signup and want to change it, you will be charged (fee varies by region and currency).
If your gamertag was created for you when you initially signed up for Xbox (meaning you did not choose it yourself), you can change it one time for free.

Also you can request a callback and a support agent will be able to see if there were any changes to the account as they have the tools with account issues.

When you go to Contact Usto get it to request a callback follow these steps:

• Step 1 ----select Xbox One
  
• Step 2 ----select no thanks, then select topic: 'see my purchase history'
  
• Step 3-----show contact options
  
• Step 4 ----select request a call from support
  
• 
  

Once they call explain the issue and they will be able to help you.

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. Unfortunately, if you accidentally changed your Xbox Live gamertag recently then you will need to pay the cost of a gamertag change.

There was a big update to how gamertags work not too long ago and a free gamertag change was offered at that time by going to the following link: http://social.xbox.com/changegamertag

Try the link first to see if you can update your gamertag using the new system.

When you change your gamertag it can take a few days for it to show across all services. If it hasn't changed everywhere within 4 days then contact support for more help
