Team Strategies and Tips (HUT)

Hi folks,

Currently I am playing HUT mode on the X1. I consider myself moderately skilled as I have played pretty much every NHL game since the beginning, but don't play it every day or anything like that.

NHL 15 is the first iteration that I've actually tried playing online. I've played locally against others and always been a fan of the be a pro mode, just never got into online play.

So now I am, and I'm struggling to get wins. First off, I can go an entire game without winning a SINGLE faceoff. Despite me being a bit older than the average player, (36) I do actually have pretty decent reflexes, so I should be winning some faceoffs.
I would expect to win less than 50% on average, but I'm actually winning 2 or 3%.

I'm finding that even though I have some fairly high ranked players on my team, they seem very inferior to players on my opponent's team. My main center is Teows with a 95 rating and I don't think I have anyone below 84. If my opponent happens to get
by my defenders way up at the blue line, then there's no catching them. He will skate away faster than any of my players can move for the breakaway. However, when I happen to get by his defender at the blue line, they are able to skate right past me and defend
before I even reach halfway to the goalie. This means I'm never given the opportunity to try to beat the goalie, and instead have to try to snipe from a distance.

Often times I attempt to shoot the puck with a quick wrister because a defender is closing in for the check, but the player does not shoot and I get clobbered nearly every time. (So I will shoot, and it's like there's an input delay because I'll be hit
a couple hundred miliseconds later and my player hasn't even attempted to shoot)

I find that my oponent can poke check the puck away from me from an unrealistic distance, and even though I'm decent at pokechecking, I can't replicate this. They will be 2 stick lengths away from me, but somehow still get the pokecheck in.

The issues I'm having above seem to have gotten worse with the updates EA has put in. It wasn't bad at all when I first started playing. I was able to get just as many breakaways as my oponents, and wasn't having the input delay issues I have today.

Anyway, wanted to post this for anyone's thoughts, and hopefully gain some tips to improve myself.

One thing I haven't looked much at are the line strategies for my team. Which are the best ones to use?
