targeting controls...?

Seriously, what is the deal here?

Little back story before i get into my point. I remember before Diablo 3 even hit PC and i was on all the forums parading for the eventual console release. One of the major issues from all the nay-sayers was controls. Of course not a lot of detailed
discussion was to be had on the matter. It was of PC "elitists" vs. Console "casuals" so it all quickly broke down to insults and condescending tones in general. But i believed there was a way for it to work. Not a lot of people agreed. Sure, it wouldn't
be EXACTLY the same but i hey, if i could think of possible work-around solutions to the problems then i'm sure the developers could do the same.

The major obstacle that i noticed was spells/abilities that require some form of targeting. Obviously with a mouse, you could just point and click on an enemy or empty spot to drop a meteor / lightning bolt / whatever. That creates a possible issue
with a controller. Or at least on the surface it does but it really shouldn't when you apply some common sense and utilize all the functions of a controller... or so i thought. The obvious solution to me was just use the right stick to move a targeting circle
for any abilities that would require that. I understand that some people wouldn't like some huge eyesore floating around all over the ground while they are playing. The best case scenario would be a settings modifier that would allow the player to adjust /
change the appearance, size, transparency, what-not of the targeting circle. Perhaps up to making it invisible all together.

A slightly less desirable alternative to just point and clicking but it works nonetheless. It would be definitely a hell of a lot better than oh say... no targeting whatsoever aside from character line of sight along with some odd automatic priority
scheme the game employs to automatically select targets for you. Surely, Blizzard devs couldn't have been idiotic enough to just throw something like that in and call it good.

I really, really am hoping i missed something and someone will sign on here, call me an idiot and point out a setting option i missed for the controls because i am really, really getting tired of trying to make proper use out of abilities like Falling
Sword or Fist of the Heavens when those abilities were clearly designed to function with proper,
precise targeting. This whole thing brings up another question. These abilities should have a sense of balance with one another in terms of usefulness. Seeing as none of the abilities that require targeting actually function the way
they should on a console port, the damage, cool-down, resource cost, etc. should be tweaked on all of them to properly balance the risk/reward associated with those abilities, but i'm fairly certain Blizzard didn't bother with any of that.

You have to flick the right analog TWICE in the direction you want it to go, to switch.

I've found that just pushing the stick in the direction of the enemy that you want to be locked on switches it.
