Tagname change

The first change is free. So I have to assume that you had a username, decided to change it to something stupid, and then wanted to change it again, or were forced to change it by Xbox because it was against the terms of service. I'm not sure how you can
blame Xbox for anything. Playstation does the same thing.

The charge is in place to prevent people from abusing the system and because certain databases, profiles, game libraries, etc. have to be updated to reflect the change. Most sites/services don't let you change your username at all for the same reasons.
Not even Steam, as someone else claimed - you can merely change your screen name.

Your gamertag is the ID which people know you by and to which your entire (digital) game library is tied. You're not supposed to change it constantly. And you are, in fact, warned about further changes costing money.

on steam yes you have a main id, but display name is what people find you with and is displayed in all games can be changed all you want, i can change my name on epic, bethesda, origin and many more without charge. sometimes a delay of 2 weeks between changes.

consoles just want to charge because they can.

sony also charge for tag changes, this is another reason i play on pc, name changes dont cost anything and can change on steam as much as i like.

Heya. Sorry about your problem. Look I get you. Gamertag changes charge pocket out your wallet. In all honesty, it's for good reason. If Xbox didn't charge the user a fee for every time a newbie or experienced person wanted to change their tag, they could
potentially abuse it in more ways you can imagine.

Now about that "charging fee". If you created your account and created your own fully customized gamertag (and you didn't let xbox generate one for you) then your first time free gamertag change has happened. There's no take backs unfortunately!

Can you log into your microsoft account with the profile that keeps trying to load? Sometimes when you have an email that you are using for the account and haven't used or signed on with it for awhile it will look like the account is closed. I'm not sure
why they do that but it's some security thing. And if you could sign in with the other profile and you dont have the license for that game on that profile the saves won't come up. But if it's a disc copy of the game the saves are still going off of the other
profile essentially making you start over again on that profile. Most if not all of the game saves are saved to the cloud now. And as far as taking it back if it's around 2 weeks or less you can take it back to the retailer. If it's more you can call up support
at 18004myxbox and have them do a search for the gamer tag that you are trying to sign in with. They won't consider it a repair under warranty to even get a new one or have it looked at. They'll tell you to use another profile or help you check your game saves
and account to see what's going on.
