System update booted me from an active multiplayer game on Destiny 2.

This hasn't happened before in the 15 years I've been playing on Xbox Live. Why would you now allow a system update to launch mid-game?

If this update saved the lives of millions then I will sit down and accept such a thing but I think maybe it could have waited?

Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to prevent this from happening again or is this a new 'feature' that you want everyone to enjoy without choice?

Are you enrolled in the Insider program? If you are then you should know that update schedules are posted in advance and if you do not update before the mandatory time, it will update at that time regardless of what you are doing. You can find the updates and their scheduled times here.

I don't believe I am a part of the insider program, unfinished builds don't really appeal to me. Is there a way I can check that?

Check the ventilation holes on the console for accumulated dust and grime clogging them.

I use a vacuum cleaner while the console is powered off to clean the vents on my XB1X.

Changing back to Instant on power mode will enable the console to check for an update at the mandatory time, about 3 am in the US, 8 pm in Australia.

As I'm in Alpha Skip Ahead OS preview ring, which gets 3-4 updates a week, the first thing I do after I turn the console on is check for an update using Guide>Settings>System>Updates.

It takes about 30 seconds to check it.

As you are in General release OS, which gets an update once a month usually, check

After the system update I am now on the 6/29/2021 general release version.

My console has been connected to Xbox Live everyday since this release, would it not make sense that the update is forced as I turn the console on or as I connect to Xbox Live rather than a couple of hours into my session? I feel like all previous system updates have been installed in this way for me which is why I was annoyed by the change.
