Switching my sons account to a new email account without losing gamer tag and gaming history

I have the same exact issue. I set up my grandson using my email however i would prefer not to have my email which i also use for business associated with this xbox account. I have since set him up with his own email but can you clarify what you mean by "transferring the account to him" permanently? Are you referring to the email account? please clarify.

Hello Xtian465, unfortunately it is not possible to transfer data, Gamertags, games etc from one account to another.

As your child has been using your email account to play, the ideal thing would be to transfer the account to him permanently and create a new account for you.

I want to use Xbox family to place restrictions on his Xbox. However as his Xbox is set up under my email I am unable to place any restrictions as I am 'the organiser'. I need to be the organiser obviously and I need my email as well. I am trying to set him up with a new email so that I can transfer his gamer tag and Xbox account to that new email. I would then be able to add him as a child and place restrictions on what he does on his Xbox. I am unable to do this for some reason. I have created a new email for him, I have made him the 'primary' I have logged in , logged out etc but without luck. I am sure that I am not alone.

So the gamer tag associated with my email (the adult) is there to stay or can I delete that gamer tag and create my own? Then I could create a new profile for son #1 and a new gamer tag.

I have figured out/created a new profile and gamer tag for son #2.

So I would like to:

change the gamer tag that is connected to my email account (the adult).

If possible I would like to keep my son's gamer tag and just move it to the email account/profile I created for him... (I'm pretty sure you said I couldn't do this but just checking?

I don't want to remove an MS account. My son's gamer tag is currently linked to my MS account. I'm a retired software developer with ton's of stuff in MS linked to that account. All we really want to do is switch my son's gamer tag from my MS account
to his own (neither of the email accounts in question is an MS domain). Ideally, we'd like him to still be able to access his gaming history (saved games, DLCs, purchases, etc.) with his existing gamer tag. Naturally, we don't want him to have to re-purchase
all his games though we will do that if necessary. Is gaming data (saved games, etc.) stored locally and keyed with his gamer tag? Surely this is a common issue for kids who started gaming when they were too young to have their own accounts?
