Switching Microsoft ties of an Xbox Live profile

I believe there is no way to separate /switch your gamer account from that email account. Unfortunately it is likely that you will need to start over.

Thanks for coming to the forums. We understand you want to change the email on the account. You can look over the support page for

changing the primary alias. There are however a few important things:

1. If the email your Step mother uses is a Microsoft email (Hotmail, outlook, live) if it is removed from the account it will be deleted.
2. If your email already has a gamer tag associated, you will not be able tyo use it either.

The best thing to do, is have your step mother log in set her profile as
home console. Then you will be able to play all games on your own account.

This is an obvious issue for many....myself included. I need to be able to unlink my primary email account from the system as my child will be the primary player...but isn't old enough just yet for their own email.

There were no instructions included noting you would not be able to unlink or change the email.

And Microsoft wonders why people get frustrated with it.

I'm seriously considering returning the whole system and going with something else.

No you cannot have more than one Xbox Live account tied to your Microsoft account, however you CAN change which Microsoft account your Xbox Live account is tied to. You do need to have a Microsoft account ready to switch it to and there are several other
restrictions and steps you need to be aware of before doing it.

So I guess a better question would be, are DLC licenses tied to the specific xbox live account that bought them, or the gamertag associated with that account?

If one transfers a gamertag using these steps (support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account),
does that transferred gamertag have access to the download history of the account it was just transferred to?
