Switching an Xbox disk game to a virtual pc game

About 2 years ago I bought sea of thieves on disk on my Xbox 1s and I recently wanted to switch it to pc without having to pay for it again.

When I go into the Microsoft store it says I do not own the game and requests that I purchase it or buy game pass, and when I go through the Xbox app it says something similar, any idea how to fix this?

I apologize but Xbox Play Anywhere only works for digital games only. According to Xbox support: "Make sure you’re playing a digital version of the game. You won’t be able to use Xbox Play Anywhere with a game disk. You can purchase the digital version from the Microsoft Store on your Xbox, Windows device, xbox.com, or microsoft.com. You can also purchase a code from a retailer and redeem it on your console or device."

Sea Of Thieves is a Play Anywhere game....however Play Anywhere only extends to digitally purchased games. So you would need to purchase it on PC if you want to play it on PC, unfortunately

probably because some gamepass pc games are wrapped xbox games in disguise as virtual disks. devs will probably push microsoft to place the pc version there.

you cant access or modify those files in anyway.

alot of the gamepass for pc games are in fact virtual xbox disk files meaning they are direct ports from xbox and not the full pc game version, its a mixed bag some are some arent.
