if you are asking why doesnt yours? then try disconnecting and reconnecting

(my friend uses his and gets exactly the same quality through both pc and console).

If I'm understanding you correctly you'll be using this headset on PC to play Xbox One games streamed from your Xbox One using the console companion? With the headset on PC it's a fake 7.1 anyway simulated by software, if the games don't have a mix for 7.1
then no, it won't be able to do 7.1. You may get the surround sound mix it has but, again, it's simulated by the software for the headset.

Pretty sure it will be supported. I know my Tritton 720+ 7.1 Surround Headset is supported.

The Xbox 360 console doesn't support 7.1 surround, only 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS. Due to this, it is normal that backward compatible games are outputting 5.1 surround. On your Xbox 360 setup, it sounds you have it set up with Pro Logic IIx to simulate 7.1
surround sound, but the Xbox 360 console doesn't support true 7.1 surround sound.
