Streaming Xbox One games to a Windows 10 PC over the internet stopped working

Hey everybody,

For the past few years I've been able to stream my Xbox One games to my PC remotely over the internet.

I did so by forwarding certain ports in my router, and accessing my Xbox One by entering my External or Public facing IP Address in the '+Add a device' option in the Connection menu of the Xbox app.

This is how I played the majority of the time, but recently it hasn't worked.

I think I've checked everything:

>I know my Xbox is on when I attempt to connect.

>Xbox has a Static IP that has not changed.

>My router has not updated and nothing about the port forwarding has changed.

>Everything on both the PC and Xbox are up to date.

>I can still stream games to my PC on the same wireless network my Xbox is on.

Does anyone know if this has recently been blocked in an update from Microsoft or possibly by my ISP?

Maybe the Xbox is now trying to use different ports and I need to update those on the router?

Should I attempt using a VPN to access my home network, or would that yield the same results?

Appreciate anyone's ideas or feedback.

Thanks for getting back quickly.

I have completed those troubleshooting steps before and gave them another try, still no luck.

You may want to look into this site on how to access a home network remotely. This is not a Microsoft site I do know people that have setup the ability to do this and use basically the same method. The primary thing is to have something that will always
point you to your home network IP address. Most ISP's lease you an IP for 24 hours and it can change.

Did a software reset, kept all my games and apps.

Went through settings carefully. Still not working like it use to.

I even set it all back up from scratch with my router and used a second PC to try to access my Xbox, still no luck.

I used a DNS service to connect to my console from work for years but about three months ago i also started to have this problem thanks to some research and no help from microsoft i finally just did a post on Reddit and received some information that Microsoft
have done a system update on Xbox One that no longer allows remote streaming from outside of the LAN (Local Area Network) the console and the PC's IP Address must be on the same subnet in order to work.

I now use a VPN to access my console.

I believe they have done this because Microsoft X-Cloud is coming and why allow access to a remote console when you can sell a service to people that does the same and make money from it.

Great idea, gave that a try, same result.

After that I decided to use a VPN, so I enabled the built in VPN on my router and configured it, was able to see everything on my home network, every device including my Xbox remotely, but still it will not connect to my Xbox.

I really wish I could roll back whatever update killed this functionality.

I know the VPN worked since I could connect to every other device on my home network as if I was plugged right into my router.
