story related achievement does not pop after a dozen tries

I'm using Xbox series x if that makes a difference.

I think as soon as I load up the game regardless of deleting it and downloading it again, the cloud syncs up as soon as I tell it which gamertag will play.

For some reason it thinks I already have the achievement, but the stats show 975gs as Otter friend is worth 25gs.

I have played up to getting the otter out of the net which is how he becomes my friend and when I cannot cross the river, I send the otter to get the log and then I cross the river. The achievement is supposed to pop as soon as I send the otter to get the log. I have played to the next few locations to when the otter leaves me to play in the lake and no way to use him again.

Frustrated.

also, when I go to check progress on collectables it says 31 of 31. I need a way to reset that to zero so I can replay the game from scratch and hopefully when I get to the otter then it will let me have this cheevo which is a story related cheevo so you are not supposed to be able to miss this cheevo.

I suggest that you instead try the solutions below.

If you're on Xbox One:

Ensure you were connected to Xbox Live. If you weren't, try connecting to Xbox Live then attempt to unlock the achievement again.
If you were connected to Xbox Live and you completed the full requirements for the achievement but the achievement seems ‘stuck’ at 100% complete or “Done! Unlocking…”, go to the achievement detail view on Xbox.com or on your Xbox One console to double-check whether it is still locked.
If your achievement is still locked, wait a full 72 hours and then check on Xbox.com or your Xbox One console and see if the achievement shows as unlocked. It may have unlocked while you were away from your console, PC, or phone.
If things still aren't looking right, give the following troubleshooting steps a shot:
Remove your account from your Xbox One console.
Power cycle your Xbox One console.
Download your account to your Xbox One console.
Attempt to unlock the Achievement again.
If the achievement is showing as unlocked, but you're not seeing the Gamerscore from the achievement added to your total Gamerscore and the unlocked count for the game in question is incorrect: Head over to your profile on Xbox.com, view the game and achievement in question on your profile, then wait a full 72 hours for things to process.

If they don't work, try the other solutions there. You might need to file a bug directly to the Xbox team for them to investigate the issue properly. You can check the guide at the bottom part of the thread.

This achievement sometimes take awhile to pop after the completion though reviewing some other posts related to it. Also know that this one does not stack with the DLC achievement for Extreme. If you complete on Extreme, this one does not pop.

Story related achievements have 0% progress.

Which specific achievement is this for? Do you know the achievement name? Is it for Master of the Prosthetic? I know a few friends who have completed this game, so I can ask them if they've had similar issues and how they resolved it. There are several achievements
that this could possibly be referring to, so I'm not sure which one it is. If you can, post which achievement it is, and I'll try to see if I can help.

Also, Sekiro is quite known for having issues with achievements unlocking when they're supposed to. Here is a thread with over a dozen people having issues with achievements not popping, with everything from story related acheivements to boss fight wins
to abilities related ones. So it's not just you, at least.

Some people got them to pop by performing a hard reset, others had their achievement pop randomly later on, even days later. I would do a hard reset and try loading the game up again and seeing if it pops. Then view the achievement itself in your game hub
for the game, where you view all of the achievements. Sometimes, if you view the specific achievement there, it can force a scan and get it to pop. This has happened to me with nearly all Minecraft achievements on the Xbox One. You can also view the specific
achievement in the Xbox app on your phone, as this sometimes also forces it to pop (I've gotten many achievements to pop this way myself). If none of this works, just wait it out and fingers crossed that it pops itself eventually and is just very delayed.
