Store sells games that then do not work outside of S mode

I have just approved the purchase of a game for my son - only to find after the sale that the game will not work without s mode.

The entire point of S mode is to protect children and to ensure that games downloaded via the official store are safe - to find out without clear warning that the game needs that protection turned irreversibly off is unacceptable. Why are games that aren't
approved clearly labelled? It makes the entire system pointless.

S mode was originally for locked fown walledgarden devices.

You can stillrestrict your child’s account as you see fit in Windows.

This is the MS advice for removing S mode - it even points out the point of this is to allow the download of apps from outside the MS Store.

Hi,

Windows 10 in S mode is mainly for security purposes, and usually applies to machines sold for educational uses. This means some games and applications can't be installed in S mode, even directly from the Windows Store.

However, most Windows 10 devices in S mode can be changed to standard Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro depending on the OS installed.

Note: Leaving S mode is one-way, there is no going back once it's done. Your Windows 10 device will be able install all Apps from Windows Store and applications downloaded from other websites/services. Your machine will
be unlocked.

How to leave Windows S mode permanently

There is no charge to leave S mode

On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings
> Update & Security > Activation.

In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an "Upgrade your edition of Windows" section, be careful not to click the "Go to the Store" link that appears there.)

On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button. After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft Store.

The beauty about investing in a store is that you can do it as many times as you want. In my game the lady outside the blacksmith shop in Whiterun had over 20k. Very useful for selling those high value items.
