    Storage not reading

Hi, I have been having problems getting my Xbox to read a new storage device I just bought.
The first time I plugged it into the Xbox, it read fine. The Xbox asked me if I wanted it for media or to format it for games. I chose media since I wanted to use it to record gameplay.

Now it wont even acknowledge the fact its plugged in. My laptop will read it perfectly but my Xbox, no.

I've tried formatting it on my laptop and have tried restarting the Xbox, but nothing has worked.

    Xbox: Xbox One S.
    Storage device: SSD SK Hynix.

If anyone has a solution, please help.

    :)

    Storage not reading

    yes it was in NTFS.
the Xbox only read as exFAT weirdly enough.
and now I'm stuck with a system partition of exFAT and the main storage is NTFS.
this is not caused by your advice, I'm just adding to the story.
thank you for your help though.

Hello! Thanks for reaching out. I'm Lucas, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you.

Is your SSD file format NTFS? If it's FAT32 you can get issues for Xbox to read and utilize it.

    - Go to Start > Computer > Right Click the drive you wish to check > Properties.

    - In the Disk Properties window, you will see it next to File system.

If it's FAT32, just convert it to NTFS:

Open a command prompt window by typing Command prompt in the Windows search box. Right click on it and Run as administrator. Type:

    convert E: /fs:ntfs

Press Enter to being the process.

The file system conversion process should not take very long and the on-screen details are fairly intuitive.

Once completed, your FAT32 drive will be converted to NTFS. Close the Command Prompt window and you’re all done.

If the drive is NTFS and is still not getting read, please let me know.

console is not reading external storage.

Hi, I hope you're doing great out there. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you with your concern.

The issue can be with the external hard drive or the console itself, if I may ask, do you have a different device where you can plug in th external hard drive and then check if that device will read it? For example a PC/Laptop or another Xbox console?

The memory stick that you have is too big for your xbox to read. It can only read the first 32GB available.
