Wrong gamertag when trying to recover my Xbox live ID.

I reset my console then proceeded to recover my gamertag. I APPARENTLY have 2 gamertags on Xbox live. One has still a full year left and the other seems to not let me connect to a matchmaking game on MW3 saying "Not allowed to play on Xbox Live." I want
my full year one recovered rather than my wierd one I had previously.

Gamertag recovery

my xbox was stolen recently and i am trying to recover my gamertag for my new console but because i had the xbox for so long the email i used to set up my gamertag years ago doesnt work any more (not sure why), is there some way for me to recover my profile
still or do i just need to cut my losses and make a new one?

any help is appreciated

I have multiple Xbox's in my house, and use a USB stick to move my gamertag between consoles all the time. It works brilliantly.

It's quicker than recovering the gamertag. You can play straight away rather than waiting for it to recover.

It's safer than recovering the gamertag. Your gamertag will always be with you, rather than someone else's Xbox, who thinks it would be "funny" to change your Avatar colour to blue.

It's more reliable than recovering the gamertag. If there is a connection problem when recovering the gamertag, you can corrupt the gamertag.

i am having the exact same problem, their gamertag / profile was on a memory unit, we have XBox family account and they are being asked fow Live ID user and password, even entering it it doesnt allow it to sign in, it still says it needs to logon. Tried
moving every profile back to the hard drive and nothing changed. I then deleted the profile in order to 'recover it' there is no longer recover gamertag, but recover profile... used that and it basically created a brand new one with a new gamertag no points!!

i can still see his previous gamertag in my family dashboard though, but he cant login to it

I was able to upgrade to the 2 months for 2 dollars by recovering my gamertag on a friend's xbox and purchasing it there. I think the only way to resolve this issue is to purchase from another xbox. Hope this helps everyone else with the problem

I wasn't actually berating the quality of the games, a free game is a free game. Except, it's meant to be 2 per month. When was the last change? Or have we been on these two for longer than the month? Yep.

2 per month means that, regardless of quality. The christmas sales push seems to have left us. 360 still gets 2 per month
