Still labelled child account despite being 18 years old

Hi I'm still being locked out of certain features such as playing Realms on Minecraft due to me still being classified as a child account.

I was told that once I and my account turned 18 I would automatically revert to adult. The reason this is an issue is because the parent account with control over mine has long been inaccessible, we forgot the password and log in details and the owner of
the account has since passed away.

Would love some help with this, this issue has persisted for a while now and I'm eager to solve it. Any help please?

There are 2 factors that determine if an account is a child account or an adult account.

1. DOB when the account was originally setup. If under 18 HAS to have an adult account attached to it.

2. If an account is in a family as a child account. Even after the DOB on the account (when originally setup) has reached its 18th birthday it will continue to be a child account until the parental account signs into account.microsoft.com/family and removes
the child from the account. If an accounts DOB has not reached 18 yet and they remove themselves from a family that has an adult in it then it will not be able to do anything until it is put back into a family as a child.

So you will want to figure out what family you are currently in (you can do this by signing into account.microsoft.com/family and it will tell you what adults are in your family currently then you would need to sign into that adult account and remove
yourself from the family. If you sign into that account and do not see yourself in a family that means the DOB on the account when it was originally setup is still under 18.

Hi,

Checking that Xbox Family link has reaffirmed the same issue I have had for several years. My account is still considered a child account as it is linked to my father’s Xbox 360 era account.

He lost access to the email attached to the parent account and lost the password years ago. He has also unfortunately since passed away.

As a result, I am unable to access his account and remove my child account status. Is there any other route I can go down in solving this issue?

If your account is still a child account due to age you would still need the parental account to oversee any changes to the settings. If the account is an adult account you would be able to do this. Do you still have a child account? (under 18 years old)
