  1. Still experiencing poor gaming performance after Windows 11 22H2 update

I posted about this issue in September after the Windows 11 22H2 update completely ruined my VR gaming experience with dropped frames, crashes, and stuttering. The problem only affects users of Nvidia graphics cards. The problem surfaces whenever there is motion. MSFS is unusable since the update. I have an Nvidia 3090. When I first reported the issue, a community member answered with various solutions related to poor gaming performance. None of those solutions worked. The solution that most people have tried is to roll back to an earlier version of Windows 11. I was going to go that route, except I waited more than ten days, and the option is no longer available. I also don't like the idea of having to keep my computer out of date because of a poorly released Windows update. I'll try to list everything that I have tried, but first, my system specs:

Dell Alienware Aurora R11 (gaming computer)

    Intel i9 2.8 ghz
    RAM 32 Gigs

Two 1 TB hard drives (one is SD)

    Nvidia 3090 graphics cards

    Graphics memory 40860 MB

    Dedicated video memory 24576 MB

    System video memory 0 MB

    Shared system memory 16284 MB

HP G2 Reverb VR headset (Note: the performance issue is not VR only)

    Solutions already tried:

Clean install of Windows 11 from ISO file

Nvidia app to delete all graphics drivers followed by updated drivers

    Nvidia control panel tweaks

    Windows gaming performance tweaks

Turn off all game overlays (Nvidia Geoforce, and, I believe, a Windows game overlay)

Installed every Windows cumulative update since 22H2

Installed every Nvidia graphics driver update, including one this week

Tried using my wife's user account to see if it was user account related

Tried disabling all start programs except windows services

Tried core isolation on and off

Tried Windows Integrity on and off

The one solution that I have not tried is to remove everything from the hard drive, do a clean install of Windows 11, and then put each program and file back one by one. My problem with this solution is what happens when after I delete everything I still have the issue? My experience with using a different user account leads me to believe that the problem lies elsewhere.

Since I wasn't the only one with this issue, I expected a solution from Microsoft or Nvidia to be forthcoming. It's now been over a month. ****?

    :)

You can actually just use rufus format tool to make a pre-22h2 Windows 11 bootable usb and go back in time. It has a download choice in it with the list of choices to make it easy. I just used it recently although for 22h2 which I'm putting on all kinds of unsupported computers :)

If you're going to clean install then go pre-22h2 and you'll still get supported updates for a while.

But, I'm not seeing any noticeable performance difference with 22h2 and Nvidia RTX 2060. Still playing games without noticing loss. So not everyone is affected. I would not put it in as poor at all. Its about the same as Windows 10. Currently using 546.27 driver released October 27, 2022 and I never install Geforce Experience.

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

    I'm glad to help you.

If the problem does not occur before the update, it should be caused by the update.

However, to fully ensure that the problem is caused by the update, you can finally try to format all the following hard disks and reinstall Windows 11 to check whether the problem still exists. Although the possible of formatting is not very high, as you described, it is still worth trying. After all, this is a more thorough solution. If the final result is the same, it is determined that it is caused by updates.

I can understand your feelings. This problem has troubled you for a long time. But if there is a way, it is worth trying, isn't it?:)

Click this link to get the steps to customize a fresh installation of windows 11.

    Download windows 11.

Back up your important information and files before formatting.

Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Best regards

    Emilio,

Thank you for responding to this message so quickly. I followed your steps, however I do not see the option for HolographicShell. I took some pictures of what I saw. Is there something else I can look for or any more advice I'd appreciate it.

Still experiencing poor gaming performance after Windows 11 22H2 update

So I've been dealing with this driver issue for the last week or so. I've tried nearly everything to get it fixed. I have a surface book 3 with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1660 Ti driver. I noticed the issue when I checked the device manager and the Nvidia driver was gone. It was only showing up when I selected show hidden devices. Then I've gone an updated the driver to the newest one and it kinda worked. Then the issue continued and someone suggested disconnecting the screen from the keyboard and poof the nvidia driver showed back up in the device manager. So I figured everything was fine, but when I would go and play games my game would crash at random times. When the game crashed I would check the device manager and the Nvidia driver was gone again. So I've gone and made sure that my surface book had the latest firmware, tried updating to the latest driver, restarted into my BIOS and checked and unchecked my gpu, etc. It seems now my last option is to do a fresh re install of Windows 11 which I absolutely do not want to do. I don;t want to lose all my documents, apps, etc. It makes me angry because this seems to be a Windows 11 and Nvidia issue, and they need to figure out how to resolve this. Does anyone have any advice other than to re install Windows?? Beyond frustrated to say the least!

The solution to my problem as well as others experiencing the same issue is below:

"Go to Computer Management → System Tools → Performance → Data Collector Sets → Event Trace Sessions. In this list, find HolographicShell, right click, and choose ‘Stop’."
