Starfield wont launch

We understand that you are unable to launch Starfield and you were getting an error message: File system error (-2143322098). Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner for you to get back to gaming.

We appreciate that you provided the steps you perform in attempt to fix this issue. To isolate your issue, we would like to ask for few things:

1. May we know if you are having issues with other Xbox games?
   
2. Are you installing Starfield from Xbox app?
   
3. May we ask if you have issues installing Microsoft Store games? You may try to install Minecraft Launcher or Microsoft Sudoku or Microsoft Solitaire Collection?
   
4. Do you have antivirus, antimalware, VPN, firewall, proxy and PC Optimizer (or something like game accelerator) installed in your PC?
   
5. Did your PC meet the system requirements of the game? Link: System Requirements - PC - Starfield - Bethesda Support
   
   
   
   
   
   So far, from the details you provided, you can try the following steps and let us know the result. You can just skip those you have done already.
   
   1. Restart device -
      
      • This will clear your computer’s memory/RAM.
        
      1. Keep your Windows updated -
         
         • Install PC updates including Optional Update. Guide - Update Windows
           
           • Settings > Update & Security (Windows 10) or Windows Update (Windows 11) > Check for updates > download updates and install > restart device and wait for the update to be done.
             
         • If you have issues with update, please check the troubleshooting steps available here - Troubleshoot problems updating Windows.
           
      2. Update Xbox app and Gaming Services from Microsoft Store
         
         • Launch Microsoft Store app on Windows by searching it on Windows search bar.
           
         • Select Library > Updates & downloads > check if an update is available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app.
           
         • If an update is available, select Update.
           
      3. Make sure the game is updated.
         
         • Launch Xbox App for Windows.
           
         • In My Library, select the game title > select More options (…) button and choose Manage > select Files and then Check for updates.
           
      4. Make sure you are signed in to Microsoft Store and Xbox app with the same credentials.
         
      5. Repair the game
         
         • Launch Xbox App for Windows.
           
         • In My Library, select the game title > select the More options (…) button and choose Manage > select Files and then Verify and repair.
           
         • Uninstalling and reinstalling Gaming Services.
           
           • Right-click the Start button and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
             
           • Type this command one at a time, press enter and wait:
             get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
             start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
             
           • Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
             
           • Restart your device and try to install the game again
             
      6. Uninstall and reinstall game from PC Settings > Apps > Apps and features. Search and select game and reset/uninstall.

We fully understand the inconvenience the issue has caused and that the current situation can be frustrating. Recently in the Answers forum we have received a lot of feedback from users about this issue, stating that the error code 0x80004005 occurs when launching Starfield, here are the related threads I found that you can refer to.

In one of the threads, a user Stone Hardgod mentioned that disabling Quick Resume can fix this issue, you can refer to it.

However, I have to say that since you only get the problem when running this game, then it is very likely that there is something wrong with the game itself. Just chiming in to say I also paid for the digital Premium Edition for Early Access to Starfield and it will not launch. Very frustrating.

Something of note to mention on this thread: whatever run away line of code that's causing Starfield to fill up the Xbox, it affects more than the game itself.

The first time I ever experienced this issue was with Starfield and I've had the Xbox One since launch, and the Series X since launch. Before I did a complete console reset I loaded up Fallout 4 and started getting the same warning. I also loaded up Cyberpunk and got the exact same message again. Two games that I've never had any issue with until Starfield brought it up.
