  1. Starfield doesn't save settings and didn't install latest update

After downloading & installing the latest update on the Xbox game pass on windows, the FOV-slider still doesn't show up. Also my settings (display, audio, etc.) do not save, I have to re adjust them every time I set up the game. And the config file (where these settings should be saved) doesn't exist, my "C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Documents\My Games" doesn't include anything for Starfield, which to my knowledge is where the config file should be located on the windows variant.

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

I have exactly the same issue. No folders for Starfield in Documents. Always have to render shaders, accept EULA and graphic settings never get saved... I reintalled the game and didn't do anything. I'm currently using Windows 11 Pro 23H2.

Starfield doesn't save settings and didn't install latest update

What about in game settings not being saved and everytime we start the game we must accept EULA terms and change the graphics settings again and again and again ?

Is this the outcome of 25 years making this game ? lol

Also, there is no Starfield folder in MyGames folder when playing Game Pass version.

I think you may have read the latest update information incorrectly. The FOV slider is coming, but it's not available yet.

The first update is just a very small hotfix. The other updates, which would include a FOV slider, are coming later.

    Starfield only 0x80004005

    Hello,

I can see that you are unable to launch Starfield and you are getting the error 0x80004005. This error usually means that there is a problem with the game installation or the system update. Here are some steps you can try to fix it:

    - Make sure your Windows 10 is up to date and has the latest updates installed. - Run the Windows troubleshooter for apps and games. You can find it in Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Store Apps.

    - Check if there are any updates available for Starfield in the Microsoft Store app. If there are, download and install them.

    - If the problem persists, you may need to reinstall Starfield. To do this, go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, find Starfield, and click on Uninstall. Then, go to the Microsoft Store app, find Starfield, and click on Install.

Please see unable to launch game troubleshooting here: Troubleshoot issues with the Xbox app for Windows | Xbox Support

Most recent update to Windows 11 broke Starfield on PC

I can confirm that Bethesda Starfield cannot launch (via Steam) under Windows 11 23560.1000, 23565.1000 or 23570.1000.

    - Install any prior build/release of Windows 11 pre 23560.1000

    - Install Steam,

    - Install latest graphics drivers for nvidia/ati card,

    - Install all Windows updates prior to 23560.1000 or out-of-band updates,

    - Restart,

    - Install Starfield,

    - Steam -> Play -> application runs normally,

    - Restart,

    - Steam -> Play -> application runs normally,

    - Update to 23560.1000, 23565.1000, 23570.1000,

    - Restart,

    - Steam -> Play -> application exits immediately, no obvious failures show via procmon - no registry/file/device failures,

    - Check for / install any device driver updates, e.g. latest nvidia driver,

    - Restart,

    - Steam -> Play -> application exits immediately, no obvious failures show via procmon - no

    - Uninstall Starfield + Restart + Reinstall Starfield

    - Steam -> Play -> application exits immediately, no obvious failures show via procmon - no

    - Restart,

    - Steam -> Play -> application exits immediately, no obvious failures show via procmon - no,

    - Use Recovery -> Go Back to restore to previous windows build,

    - Restart,

    - Without reinstalling Starfield, Steam -> Play -> *application runs normally,

I also observed that manually attempting to launch the executable also results in a simple termination during startup, and procmon/windbg doesn't show anything significant. While this may be a bug in Starfield's code, perhaps undefined behavior, it is clearly triggered by something that changed in Windows recently.

I look forward to mocking you for replying with a form post listing steps to try.

PS: With both 23560.1000 and 23570.1000 I have submitted Feedback reports that include recordings of the application attempting to launch.
