Splinter Cell (2002) Backward Compatibility Error (0x8082000c)

I have the Splinter Cell disc and I'm trying to install it on Xbox Series X. It returns the 0x8082000c error although it is backward compatible.

I've successfully installed another title in the franchise, Chaos Theory, with its disc, on the same Xbox Series X.

The console is connected to XLive. I've also power cycled, and soft-reset (keeping games and apps) the console. Nothing resolves the issue.

The disc is in good shape. I just put it in my Xbox 360. It can play.

What else can I do to fix it? Thanks!

As I mentioned in the OP, it doesn't work.

Hello There ! Would you please perform the steps bellow to troubleshoot the issue :

1/ Eject the disc.

2/ On the main menu press and HOLD 10 sec the power button of the console, wait 30 sec, start the console.

3/ Sign in with your account and make sure you are connected to Xbox live

4/ Put the game disc, you should see the update message popup, please update.

If this doesn't work go to Games and Apps > Games and check to see the game is there, if you see it delete ALL about it and re-do all previous steps.

Got the exact same issue but with OG Xbox physical copy of SSX 3. My copy is a South Korean release. Just like you, my disc plays fine on an OG Xbox console, so it’s not defective.

OK here's a walk-around: buy the game digitally on Microsoft store =)

If this is the master plan of making players buy the game again, kudos to the BC team

OK enough for the conspiracy theory, the following is my genuine theory about what happened: BC team forgot to add the Chinese disc ID of Splinter Cell to the supported list.

I've verified that my console is functional (can play other BC discs) and the Splinter Cell disc is fine (can be played on Xbox 360). Not audited by any third-party, obviously.

Now, my Xbox Series X reads the disc, sends the disc code to Xbox Live to see if it is a BC title. The network returns NO. It goes through the list of BC discs and can't find it. The list may have the US one, the EU one, the JP one, but not the Chinese one. Its box says it's made in Singapore and imported by a Taiwan company. I bought it in Hong Kong and plays it on HK Xbox 360.

Unfortunately the disc doesn't have a code on it so I can't pin-point the entry. For example, my Metal Gear Solid HD collection has the code on it: VK044-H1. That's not the case for Splinter Cell. I don't have the full list of BC disc IDs from Xbox either, so this is just a theory, a game theory =p

Have you tried clearing persistent storage or reinstalling the blu ray app?
