    Specific kind of TV for Xbox Series X/S?


    I’ve tried contacting Xbox Support to no avail, so I’m hoping the gaming community will be able to help me out.

    Does the upcoming Xbox Series X/S require a TV with 120hz refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 support, or will any other TV with 60hz refresh rate and HDMI 2.0 support suffice?

    It’s critical that I get an answer to this as my HDTV of 13 years recently gave out and as I’m now in the market for a new TV, the specific kind of TV needed for the Xbox Series X/S can make a difference between spending $300 and $3000 on a new TV.

    Hi,

    No it does not require a new TV with HMDI 2.1. It will happily run on a standard 60Hz TV or Monitor with HDMI 2.0. Your TV or monitor does not need to be 4K either as it will still run on a standard FHD (Full HD) 1080P display.

    Yes both versions of the new console have an HDMI 2.1 port, but HDMI 2.1 is 100% backwards compatible with HDMI 2.0 displays.

    It would be a bit silly to launch a console that no one without a new TV monitor could use.

    Upgrading from Xbox one games to X/S

    Specifically for F1 2022, you would need to purchase the Series S/X version. The Standard Xbox One version is not optimized for the Series S and X consoles.

    Are you using a Series S/X?

    Series S/X optimized games can only run from the internal SSD or an expansion card made specifically for the Series S/X.

    If it's specifically the Series S/X version, it is not playable on an Xbox One.
