    Sons Minecraft account

Hi! I tried buying my son some coins in Minecraft for a texture pack. Now, my son is logged in with his gmail account - not with an outlook or some such - and Minecraft (or microsoft) now wants his password, before making the purchase. My son broke his old phone and we've changed his phonenumber (which was his previous recovery option) and with it he lost the password that was set for the Microsoft account.

Now, I'm already confused how his gmail address can be his Microsoft account username,

but putting that aside I've been trying to recover his account for a couple of hours now.

He can still play the game, but can't make purchases. I filled the form several times, but I originally bought the game for him as a gift (I guess from my own Microsoft account), so this would be the first purchase made with his own account, so I can't even use that purchase information to try to recover the account. I've already tried so many times it won't let me do it again today.

Also I can't fathom why the recovery can't be sent to his gmail address, which is literally his username?

I don't know what to do. I'm afraid that at some point Minecraft will log him out or something and then he won't be able to even play the game. A Microsoft account is pretty important for using windows regardless, so this is quite troubling. Please help!

    :)

Minecraft app only on main family profile - not on my child's profile

First, if not already done so, you will have to sign in with your adult account on
https://account.microsoft.com/family and add your son's Microsoft Account to the family.

If already done, have your son sign in on the laptop. Then you open the Store app.

Click on your son's account in the top right, and then sign him out of the store app.

Sign in with your own account on the store, and then under the library, install the Minecraft game again on your son's account.

The game won't be installed with twice the hard drive space. Only the License is added to the other user on the laptop (i.e. your son).

After you installed Minecraft, sign out of the store again (unless you want your son purchase stuff in your name), and then let your son play Minecraft! Yay!

    Sons Minecraft account

    Hello Witsend123,

Thank you for your response and for the additional information. Knowing that it is the PC version of Minecraft does make a difference!

Though we will be unable to assist with account recovery on the forums, there is a possible solution if you choose to create a new account for your son. This solution is intended to make it so that your son does not lose access to the worlds that he has built on Minecraft. Keep in mind that a new license will have to be purchased for the game if a new account is going to be created. Before attempting any troubleshooting, I would recommend contacting Mojang directly at Submit a Request - Minecraft since they may be able to assist you with account recovery or potentially find solutions as to why you're unable to recover the account if it is linked to the gmail address.

If you choose to purchase a new license of the game and create a new account, you may follow the steps below to retain your PC game files:

Step One: Locate your computer name

    • You will need your computer name in order to locate your Minecraft files. For steps on how to do this, please view locate your computer name
Step Two: View hidden files and folders

Step Three: Locating your Minecraft file

    1. Open your File Explorer on your device
    2. Copy and paste the following into your File Explorer browser and insert your computer name into the bolded text space -

      C:\Users\YourPCName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds
    3. If done correctly, you should see a folder within your minecraftWorlds folder the name of the folder should look like a variety of letters
    4. Once located, copy and paste the folder onto your desktop or any easy to access area that you can access for the next step
Step Four: Add your worlds to your new account/license

    1. Open your File Explorer on your device
    2. Copy and paste the following into your File Explorer browser and insert your computer name once more -

      C:\Users\YourPCName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds
    3. This file should be empty, this is where you can copy and paste your worlds folder from the previous Minecraft account
If done correctly, your son should have access to his worlds on his new Minecraft account.

    I hope this helps!

    Sons Minecraft account

    Hello Witsend123,

Thank you for contacting the Xbox support forums! I understand that there seems to be an account issue that is linked with an owned Minecraft account. Unfortunately, we do not have direct access to account recovery on the forum, but I will supply resources for the best routes that can be taken to ensure that your son does not lose access to his Minecraft account.

Before continuing forward, can you please provide additional details in which form you have filled out? I'm curious if it's the account recovery form. If it is not the same form, please follow the steps found in the link provided to recover a lost password. If you would prefer direct one on one support with a Microsoft rep, you may contact us directly at Contact us | Xbox Support.

Additionally, if there are any concerns with the Minecraft account, you may contact Mojang anytime at Mojang - Submit a Request. Please keep this link on file if your son suddenly loses access to his account.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions regarding the resources provided, you may respond back to this thread.

    Thank you!

    Sons Minecraft account

Hi, thank you for the quick response!

Yes, I filled that exact account recovery form several times, but got a "denied" response. We don't really have enough information to put in the form and it also doesn't help that my kid usually puts a different date of birth than his real one, so he can play age restricted games (terrible parent here, I know).

On his gmail e-mail I can see a couple successful recoveries for the Microsoft account about half a year ago (losing his password is a constant problem), and it shows those were made using his old phone number.

I really don't know what else to do here, except make a new account, but that would probably result in him losing his game progress and worlds, or even the whole game, which would have to be purchased again?

Again, he can still play the game, we just can't purchase any in-game currency. I tried gifting him the texture pack he wanted, but I guess those can't be gifted.

Oh, and this is on pc, not Xbox, if that makes a difference

Transferring a Minecraft user between Microsoft accounts.

Hi, around 2011 I purchased Minecraft Java for my son using my own email (this Microsoft account). So naturally when we migrated the Mojang account it got migrated to my personal Microsoft account. Now my son is an adult, and due to safety and privacy reasons we would like to transfer the Minecraft user to my sons own Microsoft account, and was wondering if that was possible?
Unfortunately nothing is transferable between accounts.
